Jeaouia Lightweight Cold Weather Review

A low-cost, warm-weather bag that's fine for warm summer nights, but should not be trusted for anything even close to cold weather

Our Verdict

The Jeaouia Lightweight Cold Weather has a misleading product name. It is not particularly lightweight, nor is it suitable for cold-weather backpacking. However, it is unbelievably affordable and a perfectly adequate sleeping bag or blanket on warm nights – the 50–68°F comfort range that Jeaouia lists is realistic. It's a super low-budget option if you need to grab something last-minute for a summer camping trip, but beyond that, we wouldn't recommend this sleeping bag.

Bottom Line A low-cost, warm-weather bag that's fine for warm summer nights, but should not be trusted for anything even close to cold weatherThis down bag is an excellent value for anyone who prizes warmth, comfort, and affordability above all elseWith overlapping down-filled flaps instead of a zipper, this unique bag is exceptionally warm and comfortableA roomy synthetic bag that's great for car camping, but too large to reasonably carry on a backpacking tripAn affordable, no-frills bag that's perfect for anyone just starting out, though its packed size limits its appeal for long backpacking trips

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Jeaouia sleeping bag is as basic as it gets, and its price reflects that.   Credit: Arthur McMahon

The Jeaouia Lightweight Cold Weather is among the least expensive sleeping bags you'll find, which is why it's so popular. It may not be as warm as the name implies, but it is surprisingly lightweight.

As long as you know the temperature won't dip too low, it's a fairly comfortable bag. The synthetic fill is fluffier than a flat blanket at home, and the polyester exterior is relatively soft to the touch.

While it may not be the fluffiest sleeping bag, the fill has enough puff for the insulation to feel soft against your skin.   Credit: Arthur McMahon

Its square shape leaves enough space inside to stretch your legs and wiggle your toes. The zipper extends all the way down and around the entire footbox, letting you open the bag and turn it into a two-person blanket.

Dislikes

Misleading at best, deceptive at worst, this sleeping bag's marketing is questionable – compared to other bags we tested, it's not all that lightweight, and it should not be considered a cold-weather sleeping bag. (The manufacturer-recommended 41°F lower limit isn't officially ISO- or EN-rated, and Jeaouia also provides conflicting figures.)

Those red flags aside, it lacks basic features like a draft collar or neck baffle to trap warm air inside your bag. The features it does have are not high quality. For example, the “anti-snag” zippers snagged often during our testing.

Should You Buy the Jeaouia Lightweight Cold Weather?

If you're gearing up for your first time in the backcountry, and you know the night will be fairly mild, this is an amazingly budget-friendly piece of gear to add to your kit. The problem is that it is marketed as a cold-weather bag, but it most definitely isn't – for temps below 50°F, consider other options.

What Other Backpacking Sleeping Bags Should You Consider?

If you expect to camp or backpack on chilly nights and think you'll use your sleeping bag more than once, consider a better sleeping bag. The REI Co-op Trailmade 25 will keep you warm and comfortable; it packs down smaller, making it easier to carry; and although it's more expensive, it will last longer than this budget Jeaouia sleeping bag.
