Few stoves boil water faster. The flame looks and sounds like a jet engine.
Only one stove was faster, and only by 10 seconds.
Part of this is due to an ultra-wide 6-inch burner.
However, the burner is so wide that for narrower kettles the flame crept up the sides and heated the handle. We did not use the stove at full blast with narrower kettles for fear of melting the handle.
There is no wind protection for the burner. When the flame is turned down low, just the slightest wind will blow out the burner. The upside is that it is very easy to see the flame level.
This stove performs excellently at simmering in a completely windless environment. The wide burner can be turned down to a tiny flame.
This is not the easiest stove to use. There is no built-in igniter. And the flame adjustment is on the propane tank. You are always reaching down to adjust the flame, which is a bit awkward.
It does have sturdy legs and a wide surface, which is great for large pots and pans.
At 8 pounds, this is heavy for a one-burner stove. More importantly, it is bulky, and removing the hose and hose guard requires a wrench and screwdriver, respectively.
There is no case, so we saved the box it came in. However, the box only lasts one camp trip.
If you mostly care about boil time and are boiling large pots of water, this stove is hard to beat. It is sturdy and cost-effective. That said, it is not the easiest to use and has poor wind performance. In all but the most windless campsites, you will need to design wind blocks around the stove if you want to simmer anything.
While we often take this stove with us, especially for big groups, we mainly use the Gas One GS-3400P. It's half the weight, lets you use a butane canister, and comes with a carry case that can double as a wind block. It is much easier to simmer with. While it does not boil water quickly, it still takes only a few minutes to boil water for a few cups of coffee, which is plenty fast for most folks.
