Our Verdict

The Cleanburn is Cuisinart's take on a smokeless fire pit, featuring a distinctive bowl-shaped design, a sturdy stand, and impressive heat output. While we like the round bowl, it reduces the pit's overall capacity and makes for awkward log stacking. Our other gripe is the two-way stand/ash pan setup, which requires a finicky twist-lock mechanism to fit onto the bowl. Despite these drawbacks, the Cleanburn offers a stylish take on smokeless fire pits, a welcome alternative to the standard cylindrical-shaped, stainless steel fire pit.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Heat Output

Using our infrared readings, we gathered temperatures ranging from 850 to 950 degrees. At around 850-950 degrees, the Cleanburn burns hot but below the temperature range of some of our highest performers. We measured a burn time of 40 minutes using three medium-sized logs, another decent result just below some of our best-performing fire pits.

The bigger issue with the Cleanburn is its lack of radiant heat; unless we stood directly over the bowl, we didn't feel enough heat radiating outward. We suspect the bowl shape influences heat upwards too much instead of out. Unlike most competitors, Cuisinart does not currently offer a heat deflector shield.

Smoke Management

The Cleanburn did a fantastic job removing smoke during its peak burn. Our testers noticed that the vent holes were larger, allowing ample oxygen to flow through the walls of the fire pit.

Portability

We weighed the Cleanburn at 23.4 lbs. It's portable enough to lift and carry solo. Still, we would advise against using this pit for camping and traveling, since its large diameter and awkward stand design hinder its overall portability.

Our testers found it tricky to pack this fire pit into common spaces like vehicles and garages because of its unconventional shape. The round bowl shape works best flipped upside down during storage, but leaves you with a loose stand. When placed upright into the stand, it's hard to maximize space around the pit. Regardless, we feel this pit is best suited for backyards and patios where storage configuration isn't a concern.

Ease of Cleaning

To dispose of ash, twist the bowl out of the stand to access the remaining ash. While combining the stand and ash pan is a clever solution to deal with leftover ash, having to lift and remove the large, heavy bowl-shaped pit isn't our favorite. Additionally, the bowl is locked into the stand with a twist-lock tab, so you have to align the bowl with the tab correctly every time you remove it from the stand. This process can get old quickly if your fire pit gets regular use.

Ease of Assembly

The Cleanburn requires virtually zero assembly. The only assembly required is latching the pit to the stand, which takes less than a minute, bringing it from a packaged box to a fire pit.
