Our Verdict

The Tiki Reunion is a large, family-sized smokeless fire pit that burns hot, is easy to clean up, and sports a backyard-worthy look. Its slide-out ash pan is one of the best we've used, and the included legs provide enough clearance to avoid burning the surface below. Our biggest gripes with the Reunion are its lack of portability and slightly inferior smoke management. Despite this, the Reunion has a strong set of features that may make sense for the right backyard.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Heat Output

Our testers and friends agreed that the Tiki's heat output is dialed. It provided enough radiant heat for 4-6 people with even heat distribution across the pit. We measured distances at 2, 4, and 6 feet to assess outward heat. Even at 6 feet away, we could feel enough heat to enjoy the fire from a distance.

The Reunion also produced an efficient burn. We measured burn time using similarly sized, equal parts of wood across a large test group of fire pits. Longer burn times help us identify fire pits that sustain combustion effectively and promote better airflow. The Reunion burned for 60 minutes before fizzling out, which put it towards the upper half of our test group.

Smoke Management

Once the pit has reached its peak burn, smoke is largely depleted. We never had to shuffle or move chairs sitting around the Reunion to dodge smoke.

The most noticeable issue with the Reunion is arranging logs into the base. The cone-shaped base plate and narrower inner diameter make it hard to form a stable wood stack, often forcing logs to sit higher above the rim. This creates more initial smoke until the wood has burned down into the pit. Smaller logs are the obvious solution, but that reduces heat output. While all smokeless pits produce smoke until they reach their peak burn phase, this effect was amplified with the Reunion.

Portability

The Reunion's glaring weakness is its lack of portability. With a measured weight of 60 lbs and a diameter of 28", you're better off assembling the Reunion in a designated spot and moving it only when absolutely necessary. It also doesn't offer much in terms of carrying points, and the included stand can make it even trickier to find a good balance point when moving it. Even with two sets of hands, we'd steer clear of this pit for camping and RV use.

Ease of Cleaning

The Tiki reunion excels at disposing of ash. The slide-out ash pan, accessible from underneath the pit, collects almost all leftover ash. Compared to competitors that require lifting the pan out from the pit, the Reunion's tray avoids spilling soot or getting ash on clothing.

Ease of Assembly

The Tiki Reunion takes a few minutes to set up, which involves attaching the stand and legs to the base of the pit. This process only takes about 10 minutes total.
