Eagles Nest Outfitters SingleNest Review
Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
An average-to-small-sized camper will fit well into a single hammock, and the ENO SingleNest is a durable, lightweight single for camping. While we prefer more space in our camping hammocks, the ENO Single sleeps surprisingly well.
Performance Comparison
Comfort
We found that, while the ENO SingleNest isn't the most comfortable parachute nylon hammock by any stretch, it is a great balance of weight, durability, and comfort. Sleeping comfort in smaller hammocks will always be subjective, and we recommend lighter sleepers upgrade to our our Top Pick award winning double hammock, the Grand Trunk Double which provides extra space and extra comfort. Or if you are set on a single hammock, try the Grand Trunk Single which is over a foot longer than the SingleNest. We had no issues sleeping in the hammock in warmer weather when no more than a light pad and summer bag were necessary, but storms and cold weather would require more space and additional accessories, such as a rain fly.
Weight
The ENO SingleNest weighs in at 17oz, which is fairly light, but this is lacking suspension or serious upgrades like a bug net or rain fly that will allow it to be used in a wider variety of conditions. Before purchasing this hammock, consider that straps or webbing will need to be added, although it does include high quality aluminum carabiners. In fact, of all the included carabiners from each manufacturer, we feel the ENO wire gate versions are the best and lightest.
The ENO SingleNest crushes down the smallest for stuffing inside a pack of any of the tested parachute hammocks, even more than the 13 oz ENO Pronest.
Protection/Durability
Several nights were spent in this hammock while a portion was against sharp rock, and like all others tested, we pulled no punches in replicating “normal use”. The ENO SingleNest held up to our standards beautifully. Despite some tears found running in the ENO DoubleNest after only a few uses, we noticed nothing of the sort with the SingleNest. All seams are triple-stitched and the stretchy nylon performs well in all conditions.
Ease of Set-up
ENO does not include straps or suspension with any of their hammocks, and those looking to integrate their own set up may think this is just fine. One downside to the SingleNest is that it can not be set up “out of the box.”
The small and narrow hammock fit easily between trees that would normally be too tight to fit a larger hammock, and getting a good hang is easy when there is less material to stretch. Overall, it is a very easy hammock to set up, once some form of suspension is found.
Best Applications
This hammock is perfect for 3-season backpackers looking to camp warmer weather. There will be no problem finding a spot in a pack for this compact hammock.
Value
At $59.95, the ENO SingleNest is one of the most affordable hammocks reviewed, and with the inclusion of a pair of extremely high quality ultralight carabiners, we feel this hammock provides outstanding value, though the Best Buy award went to the Grand Trunk Ultralight Starter, which only costs $20. Keep in mind that additional cord and suspension will need to be purchased for this hammock, adding to the price.
Conclusion
With a multitude of parachute nylon hammocks on the market, each model needs to stand out in order to be noticed. The tiny size and light weight of the ENO SingleNest is what raises this model above the crowd, and while not the most comfortable hammock, most users will find it more than comfortable enough to spend a few nights in.
