Our Verdict

Large battery capacity and ample power highlight the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3. Between home backup and full-time van life, this power station is designed for high-draw appliances and full-scale battery expansion in mind. It is heavy, and for some, its price can be hard to justify, but it's one of the most capable and expandable power stations on the market. EcoFlow offers an optional Transfer Switch for the Delta Pro 3 that makes it very simple and easy to power your essential home circuits during a blackout.

Our EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 Experience

We've used the Delta Pro 3 as our primary backup power source during power outages and blackouts for the past six months. It has reliably gotten our team through multiple overnight outages while supplying enough power to run essentials, including our fridge, TV, and space heater, all at once. It never took us more than 3 hours to fully charge the Delta Pro 3, making it ideal for quick charges before incoming storms or planned power outages.

Its significant weight and awkward dimensions make transport more difficult, but we primarily used this power station around our house and the office as a backup power source. If its hefty weight is a concern, we'd recommend leaving it in a designated spot and using a Transfer Switch Kit installed in your home circuits. When the power goes out, you flip the switch, and the designated circuits will power essentials like lights and refrigerators.

The display is one of the largest we've seen on any power station, providing a user-friendly screen with well-made controls and buttons. Different plug options, such as a 240V outlet, allowed us to run high-draw appliances around the house, like our electric stove. And with five different AC port options, we never felt crammed while trying to plug in all our devices and appliances.

Standout features like pass-through charging allowed us to use a full array of solar simultaneously while using devices and appliances. And for sensitive electronics like our desktop computer, we felt comfortable using the uninterruptible power supply feature. Compared to a gas generator, the Delta Pro 3 runs quietly, can be used indoors, and requires zero maintenance.

The Delta Pro 3 is our first choice for expanding into full-home backup power. The older EcoFlow Delta Pro is another solid offering from EcoFlow, currently priced $1000 less, but it has lower capacity, smaller power output, and does not offer uninterrupted power supply (UPS) capabilities.

EcoFlow also offers a more portable lineup, called the River Series, designed for less power-intensive items such as charging devices and running lights. However, this comes at the expense of reduced capability and increased attention to battery life. We've tested the EcoFlow River Pro 2 and appreciated its quick charging and high surge rating (1600 watts), while weighing only 18.4 lbs.

For serious power demands, the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 is our top choice. It combines a wide range of charging options and industry-leading power specifications, making it one of the most capable power stations money can buy. If its steep price tag isn't a factor and its weight isn't a concern, then this is our favorite choice for home backup use.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Power Output

The power output capabilities seriously impressed our team. Our testers measured 3,790 Wh from its advertised 4,096 Wh rated battery capacity, resulting in an efficiency of over 93%. At 93% efficiency, the Delta Pro 3 is well above the average efficiency mark for power stations. Paired with an inverter rated for 4000 watts, this power station is primed to handle home blackouts and outages.

The 4000 watt power output allowed us to run almost every home essential during outages, like our fridge, home lighting, electric kettle, and a space heater. While you can't run a space heater for more than a few hours, and other high-draw appliances should be used sparingly, a single unit can provide enough power to get through multi-hour outages comfortably. A big appeal to owning an EcoFlow product is the ability to scale your power needs as you go. Adding battery packs and additional Delta Pro 3s can quickly increase your capacity and power limits from 12-48 kWh, allowing you to run high-draw appliances such as space heaters overnight.

Of note, we also noticed how quiet it ran under load. We were able to run this station at night with CPAP machines and heaters without ever noticing the fan noise. Near its maximum power load, the fan noise increases, but that's expected at nearly 4000 watts of output.

Portability

This is not the power station to buy if portability is high on your list. With a weight of 114.1 lbs, this power station is best reserved in a semi-permanent location in your home. A set of wheels and a telescoping handle mitigate some of its weight, but work best on flat, smooth surfaces. Although the Delta Pro 3 is very heavy, in comparison to the older EcoFlow Delta Pro, which weighs 97.5 lbs, you do get a larger battery and 400 more watts of power output.

The Delta Pro 3 requires two sets of hands to lift into vehicles and up stairways. Its unique rectangular shape can also make it difficult to arrange in cars and garage spaces. Still, even at 114.1 lbs, this power station is more compact and lighter than many comparable gas generators while delivering similar wattage.

Charging Speed

The Delta Pro 3 can complete a full charge from 0 to 100% in just 3 hours with up to 1800 watts of input in a standard 15-amp residential outlet. Recharging a 4096 Wh battery in 3 hours is about as fast as you can currently find on the market. For a power station designed for home backup, the ability to quickly recharge before outages is massive. During our testing, we never reached the full advertised 1800 watts of charging input, but did see upwards of 1600 watts at its highest rate of charge and an average of 1,293 Wh/hr.

Outside of using the Delta Pro 3 for home backup, this unit also excels in RV and van conversions that use solar. The Delta Pro 3 supports up to 2600 watts of solar with two separate ports that can be used simultaneously. We never found ourselves needing to utilize both ports since we typically used less than 600 watts of solar at a time, but for those looking for full off-grid capabilities, the Delta Pro 3 is more than capable. Pass-through charging also allows the Delta Pro 3 to be used while charging through AC or solar input.

Features

The Delta Pro 3 features a large, bright LED screen that displays information such as power in/out, charging speed, and hours remaining. While not an essential feature, EcoFlow offers an app to monitor power usage remotely and create custom charging settings to save on energy costs.

The Delta Pro 3 is equipped with a 240V outlet, a TT-30R RV outlet, and four standard 120V outlets. It also has two USB-C and two USB-A ports. Towards the front of the power station are sliding door panels on each side. The right side covers the two 12V DC output ports, and on the left side is a 125V/30A outlet. EcoFlow also claims a 10ms uninterrupted power supply, supports battery expansion up to 48kWh, and can be charged from Level 1 and Level 2 EV charging stations.

While we won't knock the Delta Pro 3 for its many features and outlets, navigating the vast array of options on this power station can feel complicated. Some manufacturers, like Jackery, design their power stations to be as simple as possible; on the other hand, EcoFlow prides itself on being feature-rich and offering a large variety of outlet options.
