Our Verdict

If you want to camp off-grid in style and keep appliances running when the power goes out, the Jackery 2000 Plus is a capable, albeit expensive, option. It offers plenty of battery capacity get to get through short home power outages or long camping trips. It also offers a very high maximum AC watt rating, which means it will power the most common items you would plug into it, including large appliances like refrigerators. Additionally, the 2000 Plus offers expansion capabilities so you can easily double or triple the capacity with additional battery packs. Jackery's newer product, the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 is a better option for most people than the 2000 Plus, the v2 product offers similar capability for a much lower price, and weighs much less, so it is easier to move around.
REASONS TO BUY

Power Output

The 2000 Plus delivered 1,678 Watt-hours (Wh) in our AC power output tests, making it a top performer. Although it's named “2000” and claims 2048 Wh, getting 83% of the advertised capacity for AC output is very respectable. You will get even more power output if you exclusively power DC devices.

What does this mean in the real world? If the power goes out at home, you could run the average 600W refrigerator for 8.5 hours. You can recharge a typical laptop with a battery of around 100 Wh, about 17 times.

Additionally, it offers a maximum output power of 3,000 watts. It can charge just about any common AC device, from a space heater (usually 1,500W) to a portable electric stove top (usually 2,000W).

The Jackery 2000 Plus scored extra points for its abundance of ports, including multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as the inclusion of a heavy-duty 25A port, which is helpful for charging portable refrigerators or a direct connection to the 12V system on many RVs and trailers.

Using the 2000 Plus, we subjected it to heavy-duty appliances, often simultaneously, like when using our espresso machine and waffle maker together.

Portability

The 2000 Plus is not light, weighing 62.3 lbs. The included wheels and handle help mitigate its large size when wheeling it on smooth surfaces. That said, both the handle and wheels are made almost entirely out of plastic and are not ideal for use on uneven and sloped terrain. This is great for wheeling around town, but not suitable for navigating a dirt path to your campsite.

It is in the sweet spot in terms of size: big enough to deliver robust power, yet still relatively portable enough for one person to move. Compared to larger models that weigh 90-100 pounds, it is relatively easy to lift and pack.

Its shape is mostly uniform and flat on top, which helps when packing items around and on top when space becomes tight.

Charge Time

At a charge speed of 1,290 Wh/h when plugged into AC power, the Explorer 2000 Plus is one of the fastest-charging power banks. We were impressed to see such a large battery reach a full charge in just 95 minutes. We also appreciate the included AC charging cable, which was noticeably durable and of high quality.

When plugged into a 100-watt solar panel, the Explorer takes about 21 hours to charge under ideal sun conditions. For extended camping trips or power outages, we recommend at least 200 watts of solar panels, and even more during the winter or if there is persistent cloud cover.

Features

The 2000 Plus has a solid app with large expansion capabilities and will serve as an emergency power supply if the power goes out and you need to stay connected. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some models, but we feel it nails the essentials.

Its display is simple and compact, yet it provides all the necessary information, including power input/output and remaining discharge time. Some power stations have touchscreens, while Jackery still utilizes buttons to operate the screen. It is also not the brightest screen, which can be nice when you turn the lights out to sleep, but this can also be frustrating under intense light when the screen is hardly visible. All in all, Jackery opted for a simpler approach with the 2000 Plus, which we don't mind. It provided us with all the critical information we needed, while offering a power station with fewer features that are less likely to break or require warranty repairs.

Should You Buy the Jackery 2000 Plus?

The Jackery 2000 Plus is a quality product, but it has largely been rendered obsolete by Jackery's newer 2000 v2 product, which is less expensive and much more portable. While the 2000 Plus offers some advantages over the 2000 v2, they are not enough to justify the much higher price and better usability offered by the newer 2000 v2.

What Other Portable Power Station Should You Consider?

The natural alternative to the 2000 Plus is the newer and more affordable 2000 v2 from Jackery. If you don't need the 2000 watt-hour capacity, then save some money and pick up the Anker Solix C1000, which is still plenty powerful but much smaller and easier to carry around. Lastly, if your power needs exceed the capabilities of the 2000 Plus, the Ecoflow Delta Pro is a standout option for large appliance use and backup home power.
