Yeti Rambler 26 Review

The Yeti Rambler is one of the highest-quality and most durable water bottles we tested. Although heavier, the thickly walled stainless steel construction does an excellent job of maintaining beverage temperature, hot or cold. The bucket handle and two-part lid provide everyday convenience through a leakproof design that encourages daily hydration. It's dishwasher safe and easy to clean by hand, making it one of our go-to water bottles for daily commutes, hitting the gym, or taking a hot thermos to the crag.

Drinkability

The two-part cap of the Rambler is designed to maximize drinkability. The wide-mouth cap is durable, sturdy, and leakproof, and has a bucket handle that comfortably fits three fingers, making it easy to tote around. Nestled between the lid and the bottle is a clear spout opening that reduces the risk of spills while hydrating on the go. We love that the clear lid makes it easy to see when you need to refill your beverage as well as when it's time to clean it out after several days of use. It's not as great for road trips because you need both hands to open the twist top, and you do have to tip your head back to sip through the lid.

The two-part cap that we tested is perfect for hydration on the go, thanks to the small opening that prevents spills even when you're walking on the treadmill or commuting to work. We also think the 26-ounce bottle we tested is pretty sturdy, especially with a wider base that isn't designed to fit in a cup holder; however, it can spill if you forgo the lid and knock it over. The two part cap that we tested received high marks, but if you want to mix it up, Yeti has several other compatible lid options available on their site, including a flip chug cap that can be opened one-handed, and a 360 commuter cap that works well for hot drinks, and a good old straw cap. If you're looking for versatility that encourages hydration, the Rambler is among our top performers.

Everyday Convenience

The Yeti Rambler has a two-part cap that makes it easy to fill, easy to tote, and even easier to hydrate thanks to the small mouth opening that prevents most surprise waterfalls while taking a sip. The thick, durable bucket handle spreads the heavyweight stainless-steel design across three fingers, and the fully sealed lid provides peace of mind when you want to fill the tank and toss the bottle into your backpack or tote bag. The features make everyday tasks just a bit easier, helping your mornings run that much smoother.

Unfortunately, the Rambler isn't cup holder-friendly due to its 3 1/2" wide diameter; however, this does make the 11" tall design more sturdy on desks and countertops. The exterior of the bottle has a slight texture, making it easier to grip; however, it lacks ridges or silicone for better grip. The Yeti does not prioritize commuter convenience. Instead, it caters to more active users who want simplicity and durability in a bottle they plan to take with them to the gym, the park, or the campsite.

Cleaning

The Rambler design is fully dishwasher safe, as are all compatible lids, making cleaning easy enough to keep this bottle in your daily rotation. The chug cap we tested unscrews from the bottle in two pieces and is fully clear at the mouthpiece, making it easier to spot any dirt or grime you'd want to get rid of before setting off on your day. The interior of the lid has no grooves or threads, which also helps maintain freshness.

Although the bottle is wider than most, it isn't wide enough to fit your hand inside the bottle; therefore, we still recommend purchasing a bottle brush to really scrub it out. This is more important if you plan to rotate between coffee and water, as coffee will settle into the bottom of the bottle and transfer flavor over time if not thoroughly cleaned with each use. We found the large exterior threads on the top of the bottle and the lid very easy to clean with just a normal kitchen sponge. Whether washing dishes by hand or tossing the bottle into the dishwasher, we think you'll find the Rambler so easy to clean, it will quickly become a daily go-to.

Durability

There's no doubt in our minds, the Rambler is built to last. Constructed from durable 18/8 kitchen-grade stainless steel along with a thick and sturdy clear plastic lid that's covered by a bomber handle on top. One tester has even taken her Rambler down the Grand River multiple times without any damage. We don't question any component of this durable design, but should you encounter any issues, it does come with a 5-year warranty.

We didn't put any dents or chips in the powder-coated stainless steel body, but we did notice some cosmetic scrapes on the colorful exterior. That said, we carried this bottle with us everywhere, to the gym, office, crag, and we even took it down the river while it successfully resisted any dents or dings due to its tough construction. Some people may be turned off by the weight, but if you want a bottle that you can buy once and keep for life, weight is going to be the tradeoff. We think the Rambler is a worthy investment and love that it's compatible with multiple durable cap designs should you want to mix it up.

Taste

If you're not diligent about cleaning between the threads of the cap and the wide-mouth opening, you'll start to notice more flavor transfer, but that can be remedied quickly with a hand wash or by tossing the bottle into the dishwasher. Yeti does not recommend using the chug cap for hot drinks, and we agree. We preferred to treat the bottle as a thermos with hot beverages like coffee or tea, or take the plastic lid off and sip from the lip of the bottle itself, which also helped reduce flavor transfer.
