Our Verdict
There's a lot we love about the Nemo Moonlite Elite Reclining chair. It's sturdy, reinforced, comfortable, and it can recline. Plus, many of its materials are recycled, which is a really cool feature. This chair isn't perfect; some of us think it's too small. But on the whole, the Moonlite Elite is a bona fide contender that will impress most trail-seekers.

Likes
The Nemo Moonlite Elite Reclining is easy to assemble — we loved this. Specifically, the seat quickly snaps to the aluminum poles, which is a much better design than the average backpacking chair.
We also geeked out over this chair's optional base pad. It attaches to the Nemo's four legs, giving them added stability and support, especially on uneven ground. This simple feature makes this chair much more usable. It made us wonder why all backpacking chairs don't offer a similar feature.

Many of our testers really liked this chair's adjustable reclining back. At first we thought it might be a little gimmicky, but we were wrong. Although not amazing, the reclining feature worked, and we enjoyed having the ability to change up our posture during longer periods in our chair.

The frame of the Moonlite Elite Reclining chair contains more metal than plastic, something we immediately noticed and loved. Most standard backpacking chairs have similar frames: aluminum poles that connect into a central network of hubs. The difference between the Nemo and other chairs is that its hubs are made from forged aluminum instead of plastic or nylon. We feel this makes it tougher, sturdier, and longer-lasting.

Dislikes
We didn't have a lot of negative feedback from our testers. The Nemo Moonlite Elite was sturdy, lightweight, and relatively comfortable for most body types, although it doesn't accommodate larger or taller bodies as well (a common theme with backpacking chairs). The main complaint we noted was that it's a little heavier, and its stuff sack fabric is a little too smooth or slippery. If you plan to strap the Moonlite Elite to the outside of your pack, be sure to cinch it down well… we didn't and almost lost ours on the trail.

Should You Buy the Nemo Moonlite Elite Reclining?
The Nemo Moonlite Elite Reclining is definitely worth considering if you're looking for solid construction and added-value features. We felt this chair would be just as comfortable without the reclining option, but this unique feature doesn't add much weight or volume, so we loved having the option. If you're drawn to unique, well-engineered products, we think you'll love this one.

What Other Backpacking Chairs Should You Consider?
The Helinox Chair Zero LT is lighter than the Nemo, and it already has somewhat of a reclining back. If you just want pure comfort, regardless of cost or weight, the Big Agnes Big Six is the most comfortable chair in our lineup, although we wouldn't want to carry its added weight on longer trips. If you don't mind sitting on the ground, the Crazy Creek Hex 2.0 is one of our faves, and it allows you to comfortably lean back for as long as you want.
