Teton Sports Outfitter XXL Review

Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
It's hard to exaggerate how large this cot is. It's a great option if you want to ensure you have plenty of room to shift positions or simply prefer extra space when sleeping. Honestly, this could almost be enough bed for two people if you didn't mind being extra cozy, and you both were on the smaller side.
Ease of Setup
The first — and most important — thing we considered when comparing cots side by side is the amount of effort it takes to set up and take apart each camp bed. That means the time and hassle required to assemble and disassemble each product, the safety of our fingers and hands from pinching, the number of parts we have to keep track of, and how easily those pieces can be fitted into the carrying case once done. That assessment weighed in at 40% when we calculated its final score.
This cot isn't too much of a hassle to put together, but it can be a bit awkward, mainly due to its size. We also discovered it is very easy to get pinched when the legs swing around if you aren't careful with your fingers — there was plenty of swearing the first time we experienced this.
Once you spin the legs around, you unfold the main body of the cot width-wise. You then need to slide the foot bar through the canvas and lock it into place using a pair of keyhole slots. The head bar can be a little trickier to position since it fully tensions the cot. However, the swingarm pivot greatly helps with this.
It's not any harder to break down, but it can be a little trying to return the folded cot to its carrying bag, especially if you are on your own. The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL does take up a bit of space during the folding and unfolding process, so you will want to do this outside your tent.
Portability
Next, we rated and scored each product's portability (30% of the total score). As you might imagine, the Teton Sports Outfitter XXL did not perform well in this metric.
The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL tips the scale at a bit over 25 pounds. That solidly positions it as one of the heaviest cots of the group. Once packed up, it remains quite large and quickly becomes an absolute pain if you have to carry it for more than five minutes or so. The bag does have carrying handles, but they don't do much to alleviate the pain of carrying this cot around. You could maybe sling it over your shoulder, but the bottom line is this cot is for car or drive-in camping only.
The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL can also be challenging to pack around when loading up a car. It takes up a ton of space on its own, and its awkward shape makes it hard to stack gear on top of it.
Comfort
Moving on to how it felt to sleep on the Teton Sports Outfitter XXL, which constitutes 30% of the total score. We enlisted the help of a panel of judges to provide feedback on the comfort of the cot experience. We then combined their individual opinions to determine the overall scores. We also looked at how easy it is to hit your head, elbow, or ankles on parts of the frame if you toss and turn during the night. The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL did much better in this metric than many others.
All of our judges found this cot to be exceptionally comfortable. It has loads of support, with the bars at the head and foot preventing any drooping. It's also large enough that you really have to try to hit specific parts of the frame when adjusting positions. If you want an extra comfortable night outdoors, the Teton Sports Outfitter XXL is a great choice.
Durability
Our last series of assessments is tied to the durability of each cot and how well it withstood our rigorous testing process. Scores take into account the maximum weight of each cot as well as our evaluation of the strength and reliability of its design. During this process, we deduct points for signs of damage found at the conclusion of our evaluation period, and we examine any consistent complaints in user reviews against our own experience.
This burly cot didn't show any weaknesses beyond the slightest scrape or scratch once we were done with it. The pivot arm makes it easy to avoid damaging the plastic part that fits into the keyhole slot when tensioning the cot as well. Overall, this thing is an absolute tank, rated for up to 600 pounds. It might not be the easiest cot to lug around, but at least it's built to last.
Value
The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL isn't a cheap cot, so it may not be the best option for bargain hunters. However, it should last for quite a while, making it a decent value if you amortize the cost over its expected lifespan.
Conclusion
The Teton Sports Outfitter XXL is the answer for anyone seeking a sturdy, large cot that can withstand some abuse. It's comfortable and not overly difficult to put together, but it falls short of being the best when it comes to weight or space-limited gear for your next trip.
