Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Stanley Quencher quickly became our favorite water bottle design for maintaining hydration during long travel days and daily errands; really, any day we knew we'd be spending a significant amount of time in the driver's seat. Although not leakproof, the cupholder-friendly bottle is spill-proof, and the lid transitions between a straw, a small sip opening, and a fully covered lid with a quick rotation of the cover. It's perfect for anyone after great-tasting cold beverages as they make their way around town, work hard at the gym, or push through projects at the office.
Drinkability
If you need a little encouragement to hit your daily hydration goals, the Quencher is the perfect choice for hydrating on the go. Even though we tested the larger 40-ounce size, it fit easily and securely into our car's cupholder, keeping it within arm's reach for hydration during long travel days or morning commutes. The straw is stiff and reaches the bottom of the bottle, while the adjustable Flowstate lid holds the straw in place. The lid rotates through 3 positions, so you can choose whether you prefer the straw feature, the small mouth opening, or fully closing the lid for greater spill resistance. Just keep in mind that the Stanley is not leakproof, even when fully closed, so be sure to keep it upright.
While we love the sturdiness of the reusable straw, we liked it less when we were taking a drink and hit an unexpected bump in the road. And while the lid can rotate to a fully covered position, it isn't leakproof and is only capable of resisting spills and splashes; if you toss this sideways into the bottom of your bag, you'll end up with a soggy mess. And while there is a small mouth opening for drinking, we think the straw feature is best and love that you can rotate the lid so the handle and spout align correctly for both left- and right-handed people. Sipping through a straw lets you keep your eyes on the road rather than tilt your head back, and also eliminates the fear of accidentally waterfalling yourself. The Quencher is fun to sip on even when not driving, because it keeps your drink so easily accessible. If you need a little encouragement to stay hydrated, this bottle does the trick.
Everyday Convenience
The Quencher features an everyday convenience that makes it particularly easy to hydrate during long travel days and daily commutes. We love the 40 ounce size that still fits in your cupholder, along with sturdy lid and comfort grip handle that allow you to easily carry the bottle from one location to the next. It doesn't stash well in a bag, but we find that since it is always in hand, we are more likely to take a little sip from the straw just for kicks. The FlowState lid provides versatility as a spill-proof topper, a straw, and a small mouth opening, all of which can be rotated to suit your dominant hand. The wide mouth opening makes the bottle easy to fill with any type of beverage, and stack up with ice cubes of any shape.
Unfortunately, the Quencher isn't fully leakproof; it is simply spill- and splash-resistant. The lid fits snugly in the rim of the tumbler, but at the end of the day, the Quencher is meant for cup holders, desktops, and other flat surfaces. We also found that the 40-ounce design is a little top-heavy and easy to knock over since the bottom narrows to be cup-holder-friendly. And while the large handle features silicone sections to increase grip and make the bottle easy to carry, it's also heavy when full, and you can't throw it into a backpack, which limits its versatility. That said, if you just need a bottle to keep your drinks cold between activities on long travel days, during daily commutes, or for chores around the house, the Quencher is at the top of our list.
Cleaning
The Quencher features a durable and fully dishwasher-safe design, which we love. The wide-mouth opening and internal threads also make it easy to wash by hand with a kitchen sponge, although the straw itself requires a special brush to fully clean any residue from iced coffee, drink mixes, or chapstick. The lid has clean lines that make it easy to scrub, and the rotation feature on the lid is removable for cleaning.
We love the lighter color on the lid that makes it easy to see when dirt builds up, and we need to toss the bottle into the dishwasher for a deep cleaning. Although the lid and straw are dishwasher safe, we preferred to hand wash both to maintain their shape. Overall, the Quencher is easy to clean and keep in your daily rotation.
Durability
Stanley provides a “Built For Life” lifetime warranty on the Quencher water bottle, ensuring replacement should the bottle ever fail. We love the 90% recycled 18/8 stainless steel bottle that pairs with BPA-free plastic components, maintaining durability and performance while using sustainable materials.
After many months of use, we have yet to notice any durability issues with this bottle design. The bottle itself doesn't even have any cosmetic scratches, the silicone on the comfort grip handle looks brand new, and the lid is in great shape despite lots of use. If you're after a durable design that's perfect for hydrating on the go, the Quencher is a worthy investment.
Taste
The Quencher can be used for hot or cold beverages, but we preferred to stick to cold most of the time. That said, the stainless-steel inner walls and easy-to-clean plastic lid and straw deliver great taste even when switching between beverages. We rotated between cold brew, iced matcha, lemon water, and electrolytes during testing, and only noticed lingering flavors when we added different milks to our caffeinated beverages.
Perhaps it's obvious, but maintaining a clean bottle goes a long way, even if it's just a quick rinse between different beverages. Only when we neglected some cleaning did we notice the plastic lid hanging onto the previous day's taste.
Should You Buy the Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate?
The sleek and durable Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate quickly became our favorite bottle design for daily commutes and longer travel days thanks to the sipping straw and cupholder-compatible construction. The high-quality stainless steel and BPA-free plastic design is great for keeping drinks fresh and cold, even when we popped in and out of the car running errands. The comfort-grip handle makes it easy to tote from one activity to the next, but the Quencher is more of a “lifestyle” tumbler that fits into the daily grind. If you are looking for something you can toss in your pack to take hiking, this is not it.
What Other Water Bottles Should You Consider?
The Owala FreeSip Sway blends the best of two worlds; offering straw and chug options, and a fully leak-proof construction. The mouthpiece is also fully enclosed, preventing dirt and grime from collecting. Unfortunately, it's more difficult to clean. If you like the sound of a leakproof bottle design you can toss into a pack and want to keep things simple, we love the Yeti Rambler, which is even more durable than the Quencher but doesn't come with a nifty handle or straw. If you are on a budget and want a durable, BPA-free plastic bottle, the Nalgene Wide-Mouth.
