Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Patagonia Airshed Pro is a comfortable, breathable, and simple piece that's sure to impress. It doesn't have a ton of extra features, but if comfort is your priority, this jacket has you covered.
Breathability
Running makes us sweaty. Breathability is one of the most important factors for a running jacket, and the Patagonia Airshed Pro is up to the task.
The Airshed Pro features two breathable and comfortable materials. The shell, which covers the torso, is nylon, while the sleeves and hood are a knit polyester. Both of these materials are super soft and allow for a ton of airflow, making this layer a great choice for cool days when you have a hard workout planned. Furthermore, it is a great layer for days when you're unsure about your outfit. Because of its exceptional breathability, the Airshed Pro is a great choice for warm days too.
Though this jacket is a pullover, the front zipper is two-way. This means you can keep the hood up and closed at the neck while still keeping the front open for ventilation. This feature is unique to the Airshed Pro, and is part of the reason it earned such high marks in the breathability metric.
Weather Resistance
Even in sunny California, not every day is perfect, but we can't let that get in the way of our running. The Patagonia Airshed Pro is not the most protective jacket, but we love it for reasons beyond its weather resistance. It performs decently well in the wind, primarily because of the shell fabric, rather than the sleeves, which are quite porous.
The shell deflects water easily, but the sleeves and hood do not. The hood, made from the same stretchy polyester as the sleeves, appears to be designed for warmth rather than water resistance.
We love the snug fit of the hood, which zips all the way up to the nose, and it does help keep some warmth in when you need it. The front zipper zips all the way up towards the face for extra protection as well. This jacket is best suited for cool to warm days as an outer layer or for colder days as a mid-layer. It is thin enough to be comfortably worn under a more weather-resistant running jacket, which ups its versatility significantly.
Comfort and Mobility
You want to put on layers and then forget about them, which is precisely what we find with the Airshed Pro.
The updated Patagonia Airshed Pro Pullover strikes an impressive balance between protection and flexibility. While the shell remains lightly structured for wind resistance, the stretch-knit sleeves and hood allow for excellent mobility and comfort. The new version offers a slightly roomier fit through the torso, which makes layering easier and enhances overall freedom of movement. However, the updated version features slightly shorter sleeves and a trimmed-down torso length, which may not appeal to runners who prefer a bit of extra coverage.
The fabric's sweat-wicking performance continues to shine—so much so that we often keep it on well after our runs. The soft, stretchy sleeves feel luxurious against the skin, and the half-zip ventilation lets us regulate airflow with ease. A snug elastic hem keeps the jacket securely in place during motion, rounding out one of the most comfortable and versatile layers in Patagonia's running lineup.
The Airshed Pro is our favorite for comfort because of its great fit, elastic waist, and soft, stretchy sleeves. When all we need is a basic layer for a brisk morning or evening run, this is one of our top choices.
Portability
The Airshed Pro is one of the lightest jackets in this review. It is barely noticeable at just 3.12 ounces for a size small, whether you have it on or stuff it in your running pack.
This version features a chest pocket that doubles as a stuff sack. While this iteration doesn't pack down to be quite as small as it used to, it is far easier to pack into the slightly larger pocket, making it even more seamless to stash on the go.
Features
Unfortunately, the simple Patagonia Airshed Pro lacks many of these extras, aside from its newly integrated pocket and fancy two-way zipper.
While we really like how simple the Airshed is, there are a few things that could be added to take it to the next level. First, it has just a small reflective front logo. Our testers agree that reflectivity is more important on the back to increase visibility in darker conditions. If you're mainly running on trails, though, this may not be as important to you.
Should You Buy the Patagonia Airshed Pro?
The Patagonia Airshed Pro is available at a price that feels fairly average for a running jacket. If you're mainly looking for a comfortable and breathable wind layer to help take the chill off, this is a great piece at a nice price. If you're looking for something to wear in more rugged conditions, though, we recommend a more weather-resistant running jacket. Runners seeking a versatile addition to their running gear will appreciate the features of this Patagonia women's running jacket.
What Other Running Jackets Should You Consider?
If the softness of the Patagonia Airshed Pro inspires you, but you are looking for a jacket with a bit more weather protection, the Asics Fujitrail Packable is a great jacket to consider. Built with handy loops and features, the Fujitrail offers strong drizzle and wind protection but maintains a similar level of comfort. The Salomon Bonatti Cross Wind is a lightweight, comfortable jacket that offers strong weather resistance, a comfortable fit, and a slightly lower price tag. Finally, the Brooks Canopy is a well-designed running jacket that features a host of thoughtful features in addition to its comfort.
