Our Analysis and Test Results
The Out of Pocket Midi is an 87% polyester and 13% spandex blend that offers a four-way stretch. They are one of the more sustainable pants we tested; the company claims that the manufacturing process uses minimal water and waste production. These pants come in various beautiful seasonal and core colors and are available in sizes XXS to 4X. Secure pockets grace each side of the hip.
Performance Comparison
Comfort and Fit
These pants are so lush on the skin that we wore them in the morning for yoga, dressed them up for dinner, and sometimes didn't want to take them off at the end of the day. Compared to other products we tested, these pants had the most uniquely soft fabric — we love how they feel like cozy pajamas.
The Spacedye Out of Pocket is our quick grab to wear on a long flight or road trip. We love having a pant that feels amazing on the yoga mat and is a comfort superstar for every stage of our adventures. The contouring fabric is supportive without being overly compressive, and these pants offer a flattering fit for a wide range of body types. The design features no outside seams, and the flat stitching gives the legging a clean silhouette that easily transitions from yoga to a fashionable look for the town. They also offer UV protection, protecting your legs while you get your vitamin D. These leggings felt true to size for our testers. However, those who want a relaxed fit may size up for a deliciously soft go-to for restorative yoga, lounging, or travel.
One notable feature of these yoga pants is the tasteful pockets on both hips. When empty, the side pockets lay flat and maintain a clean cut. When carrying a wallet or phone, they mold to secure the phone or wallet and do not gape at the top. They also do not drop things from their pockets while running or rock climbing. We tested them upside down in a headstand, and our valuables remained secure. Chef's Kiss.
Ease of Movement
Beyond Yoga engineered a performance fabric combining soft texture with a four-way stretch capacity. These pants mold to your curves and feel luxurious in a movement practice. While yoga pants can't make a pose easier, they can support you as you explore your depth in challenging twists or bends. These pants moved with us into our full range of motion in backbends, deep hip openers, and splits. We never felt pinched or constricted, and there were no inflexible seams or over-stretched fabric.
Focus is challenging when pants squeeze too tight, scratch, or roll. Other pants we tested have constrictive waistbands, a baggy crotch, or inflexible seams that hinder movement or cause discomfort. The waistband on the Spacedye Out of Pocket uses a single band of compressive fabric that hits right above the navel, cupping the natural hip line. The material offers the right amount of compression without squeezing or causing a muffin top.
Breathability
Some pants get sticky and cling to the skin when sweaty, but the Spacedye fabric remains soft and flexible, moving with the body when damp. We tested these leggings on runs and hiking on hot black lava rock and found that they wicked sweat quickly.
We tested these pants in a color that synthesized shades of green with black. The subtly mottled material does wonders for camouflaging sweat stains. Lighter colors show bands or blotches of sweat in a heated practice. If you order pants for hot yoga or exercise where you break a sweat, choosing a darker color of the mottled Spacdye Out of Pocket will keep you looking fresh when you sweat it out.
Construction Quality
The weak link of these yoga pants is the seams. We noticed only faint pilling after a month of use and multiple wash cycles. Seams on the legs and ankles started threading after the third wash, and our research found that many reviewers report the seams unraveling in places within months of purchase. Ordering a size up could extend the life of the seams.
Whereas the fashionable fit and comfort of the Spacedye Out of Pocket is a good fit for travel or daywear, there are other options that would be a more durable alternative for outdoor adventures. The Spacedye fabric is moderately resilient to abrasion. That said, while it held up to multiple runs on the climbing wall, hikes in rocky terrain caused snags in the material.
Should You Buy the Beyond Yoga Spacedye Out of Pocket?
If touch is your love language, these pants are unbelievably soft on the skin. They transition well between different yoga styles, remaining breathable in rigorous vinyasas and deliciously cozy for the next candlelit yin sound bath. We love how they feel like a gentle hug on our curves, and our lead tester kept grabbing these after the testing period to wear during their most challenging yoga flows or for a long day's work teaching yoga classes.
What Other Yoga Pants Should You Consider?
While they are some of the softest and most flattering pairs we tested, the Spacedye Out of Pocket showed wear more quickly at the seams. The soft fabric is lovely for travel, jogging, or going to town, but it may be too delicate for rugged trails or the local climbing crag. For a pant more suited to outdoor adventure, consider the Prana Becksa 7/8 — it's not as soft, but it's tougher for your roughest adventures. If you love pockets but are crazy for fun patterns and curve-sculpting, then the colorful options of the flattering Sweaty Betty Power 7/8 Workout Leggings won't disappoint.
