Manduka GRP Adapt 2.0 Review

Imagine walking into a 100-degree studio, feeling sweat already pooling on your palms, knowing it will only intensify with movement. The Manduka GRP Adapt 2.0 can handle it. In our sweatiest yoga sessions, it had the highest combined wet and dry grip, balanced with smooth surface transitions. Manduka designed this mat for sweaty palms and hot yogis, and we were delighted that it provides enough wet grip to ditch the soggy towel during heated classes.
The mat absorbs sweat quickly and efficiently. It is amazing how the mat's surface looks smooth and glassy, yet grips like a gecko on a polished surface. It feels slightly slick in some transitions when completely dry, yet a tiny bit of moisture provides grip.
This is one of the lightest mats, and the bottom of the mat features a rubber base that does not budge during movement.
Dislikes
The Adapt 2.0 is an open-cell mat that absorbs moisture, and while this is a positive for many people because sweat from the hands is efficiently absorbed by the mat, it can cause water staining, and may be annoying if you prioritize aesthetics. Though it does not change anything functionally.
Like every open-cell mat, it does absorb sweat and will begin to smell over time, as it is more difficult to clean thoroughly. Open-cell mats, in general, do not have the lifespan or ease of cleaning that many closed-cell mats do. To manage cleaning, wipe the surface with a damp cloth using water or a very mild, mat-safe cleaner. The most important thing is to hang it to dry completely (which can take a long time) before rolling it up. Airflow is essential to prevent odor buildup.
It needs a deep clean once or twice a month. Use a diluted water-and-mild-dish-soap mixture to gently wipe with a soft cloth (avoid soaking or submerging), then rinse with a clean, damp cloth and hang to dry thoroughly.
Another complaint we have about this mat is that it can squeak underfoot when it is dry. This can be noisy in quiet rooms like an Ashtanga Mysore practice or a quieter studio.
Should You Buy The Manduka GRP Adapt 2.0?
The Adapt 2.0 is a good fit for anyone who practices hot yoga regularly, sweats a lot, or just wants a really grippy mat. In testing, its grip remained consistent in both dry warmups and fully sweat-soaked flows, eliminating the need for a mat towel. The mat's 5mm cushioning is not as thick as some mats, yet it is suitable for most practices and strikes a strong balance between comfort and stability, offering joint support without feeling squishy in balance poses. It's slightly heavier than minimalist mats, but for heated classes and high-sweat sessions, its traction for both wet and dry conditions makes it our top recommendation for hot yoga.
What Other Yoga Mats Should You Consider?
The Adapt 2.0 has a cushion that is grounded and responsive, but can feel a little thin for deep lunges or long-held poses on the knees. The Manduka Pro offers significantly more cushion and joint padding for long-held floor sequences or poses where you lean into major joints, such as the knees. If you like having a grippy mat but are still learning alignment cues, the Liforme Original includes alignment markers that can be helpful for improving your form.
