Our Verdict

The KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather is a heavily cushioned flip-flop that won't put a big dent in your wallet. For the price of a burger, the KuaiLu offers pillowy-soft comfort for around-town strolls or beachside hangs, though it doesn't have the best traction for steep trails or slick rock. Despite a hefty midsole, these weigh only 11.6 ounces in a men's 9, making them light enough for car or air travel. Over time, the foam on the KuaiLu deforms somewhat, but we still found them comfy enough for afternoons at the pool or evenings at a social gathering. If price is a priority, these generously cushy flip-flops should be added to your contenders list, especially if you have a more casual list of flip-flop needs.
REASONS TO BUY

Our Analysis and Test Results

We loved the squishy midsoles of the KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather, whether testing these on vacations in Mexico or wearing them to the gym. When you keep in mind their very accessible price point, the KualiLu are great for budget-conscious shoppers or travelers who want open-toed footwear that is light to pack.

Comfort

KuaiLu made the Yoga Mat Leather with over an inch of EVA memory foam, making them some of the squishiest flip-flops in our lineup. These also have a supple toe thong that was comfortable across several different testers. While some of the competition has more pronounced arch support, these significantly outperformed their price point.

The KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather has a much softer construction, and we found it comfortable right out of the box. Its memory foam broke in quickly, though the denser foam in the arch held up well, maintaining consistent arch support. The edges of the foam did collapse some after about a month of regular wear, but we still found the Yoga Mat to be almost as comfortable as it was when we first slipped them on. These also have a comfy toe strap that didn't cause any hot spots or blistering.

Stability

Coming in just average in this metric, the KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather is not our first recommendation if you need stability with your open-toed footwear. The EVA memory foam somewhat broke down over time around the edges, leading to a slight increase in ankle rolls, especially on uneven ground.

The base of the KuaiLu Yoga Mat is fairly wide, and the outsole has a flat platform that provides at least some stability, even when lugging a suitcase or beach bag. However, it has a fairly pronounced heel-to-toe drop, and when paired with the permanent squishing of the edges, it reduces stability. While we appreciated the ample cushioning, the KuaiLu's stack height—measured from the ground to the foot—is quite high. This means that if you roll your ankle, it's more likely to be worse.

The traction of the KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather is decent for casual use, whether walking on wet sidewalks or a flat trail, we didn't slide around much. But if you want an all-terrain flip-flop, this wouldn't be our first recommendation. KuaiLu made this flip-flop with a non-slip rubber outsole, a common feature in this industry. It has very minor water channels to usher water away from the contact points, but it doesn't perform very reliably on wet surfaces, particularly on uneven ground.

Versatility

At a modest 11.6 ounces, these are fantastic to squeeze into your luggage for your next trip, especially given their cushioning. These also have a surprisingly clean aesthetic for semi-formal occasions where open-toed footwear is allowed, which we rarely see in a pair of budget flip-flops.

The Yoga Mat Leather has enough cushion for all-day wear, with just enough arch support across our testing team for in-camp or around-town walks, as long as we kept them fairly short. However, these lack the traction needed for more involved hikes or water sports, and our feet moved around in them on steeper ground.

Style

The KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather comes in 18 different color schemes (yes, you read that right), and they are shockingly stylish for a pair of budget flip-flops. We pulled these off easily with jeans, and some of our testers even made them work with nicer attire.

The faux-leather aesthetic of the toe strap was excellent for semi-formal gatherings (when open-toed footwear was still appropriate). The color schemes available in the KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather also cater to a variety of color preferences and looks, depending on the shopper.

Should You Buy the KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather?

If you need a pair of flip-flops on a budget, the KuaiLu Yoga Mat Leather should be at the top of your list. These are very friendly on the bank account, while offering enough performance and style for coffee shop meetups, dinner parties, or casual water sports. It doesn't have the best traction, but it's light enough you can take these with you on your next flight or road trip with ease.

What Other Flip Flops Should You Consider?

If you want an even lighter pair of flip-flops, the Teva Mush II is a very cost-effective model that's great for lounging or shorter-distance adventures. For a more all-terrain option, the OluKai Ohana has a dependable outsole and improved longevity that makes it still a high-value pair of flip-flops.
