Comfort and dexterity and this product's strong suits. The Achiou gloves fit like your favorite pair of socks, and it's a breeze to maneuver your hands and fingers when wearing them.
Using a pen or pencil, tying your shoes, scrolling, texting, and searching on your phone is super easy. The knit fabric of the Achiou is soft and accommodating. We rarely needed to pull off a glove in order to get something done.
When considering the long haul, we don't see the Achiou gloves lasting for several seasons, but for the price, they aren't a bad deal. We think the construction quality matches the price. That said, they still hold up well and feel solid enough to get you through the winter.
This is a simple, lightweight layer, and if it's really cold outside, you'll need to stay moving if you want your hands to stay warm. These gloves don't provide enough warmth to stand on their own, but are a great extra to wear while walking the dog, or on your way to work. They are also slim enough that you can still fit your hands in your pockets while wearing them.
For the short-lived snowball fight or walk around the park, the Achiou gloves will provide enough warmth to get you by; however, they certainly should not be your go-to for frigid conditions or extended time in the snow and cold. One thing we do like is the extended, ribbed-knit wrists. They are dense and do a decent job of keeping snow from entering the glove.
Dislikes
The Achiou gloves are thin, and their knitted design creates countless micro openings from the tips of the fingers to the base of the wrist. The result is a product that is not weatherproof at all.
Although they do fairly well against light snow contact, the Achiou gloves don't stand a chance against water. It instantly soaks in. However, to their credit, the synthetic material dries relatively fast. When it comes to wind, gentle breezes are tolerable if you're exerting energy (morning run), but they are no match for any other type of windy condition.
As for features, these gloves are very basic. But, like we've said, that is to be expected for the price. We like the raised, rubberized pattern that covers the palm and fingers. It provides a great grip for shovels, trekking poles, water bottles, or tools.
We also love the touchscreen feature, which includes the thumb and first two fingers. We found it to be very responsive, making texting, scrolling, and any other phone tasks simple and seamless.
Should You Buy the Achiou Touch Screen Thermal?
If you need a no-frills, low-cost option to get you through the winter, then you may wanna jump at this good deal — maybe even buy more than one. Stash them in the glovebox of your car, toss them in a backpack, or keep an extra pair around the house for visitors to use if they forget their own. There are higher-quality gloves out there, for sure, but if all you need is a comfortable, lightweight basic, the Achiou could be a lifesaver in many cases.
What Other Winter Gloves Should You Consider?
If you prefer thinner gloves made from natural fibers, you'll like the Smartwool Merino. They are touchscreen-compatible and thin enough to double as a liner under thicker ski gloves. We also like the REI Co-op Polartec Wind Pro 2.0. They are also thin, but have better wind-resistant technology.
