Our Analysis and Test Results
The Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile is a simple and cost-effective chair that's great to use near the water or while kicking back near the fire at your favorite campsite. The stripped-down design forgoes any bells and whistles, but its construction is high-quality and made from durable materials. We love this chair for its ease of use, portability, and unique level of comfort.
Comfort
The Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile chair provides a unique design that keeps your center of gravity stable and low to the ground. The breathable mesh panel runs the entire length of the backrest, while the spacious seat measures 21 inches in width. The side bars or “armrests” are padded to further increase comfort, whether you bend your legs and knock your knees together, cross your legs, or fully extend to the ground. The backrest keeps you slightly reclined yet upright, allowing you to open your chest rather than being forced to slouch.
While this chair features a unique design that our testing team found quite comfortable, especially when sitting near a river on a hot day, we recognize that this design may not be for everyone. The seat only rises 5 inches away from the ground, which might make it difficult for some folks to get in and out of. Some testers complained of the bar on the bottom of the frame being slightly uncomfortable, mentioning that some padding would be nice. Still, we love the spacious seat, the breathable material, the padded “armrests” as well as the ability to bend our legs or fully extend out front depending on the day. We highly recommend the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile for those who plan to use it near the water, as you can place your legs in the cool water while your upper body is reclined and supported.
Portability
While the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile isn't the lightest nor the smallest camping chair that we tested, it is pretty darn close. Considering the low rider design allows the chair to become even more compact, it stows easily into its own storage bag with a shoulder strap, measuring only 26 inches long by 8 inches wide. We didn't mind carrying this compact chair further away from the car, since it was so easy to carry.
The Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile only weighs 7 pounds, which is below the average weight of the camping chairs we tested. This lighter weight, combined with a handy storage bag, makes it easy to throw over your shoulder on the way to the beach, river, campsite, or BBQ.
Quality
While not the highest of quality, the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile provides a simple and sturdy frame constructed from strong steel and aluminum that is capable of supporting up to 250 pounds. During our “plop” tests, the chair remained unscathed and perhaps more sturdy than other designs due to its low rider positioning, substantial rubberized feet, and wide base of support.
When piling into this chair with friends, there were no odd noises or creaks, even when far exceeding the weight limit of the compact design. While the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile is a rather stripped-down design with minimal extras, the included features (such as padding near the "armrests") appear to be well-made and capable of performing for many seasons.
Ease of Use
The Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile is shipped assembled and ready for use. Simply remove the compact X-shaped design from its portable carry bag, pull the legs in opposite directions, and voila, you are ready to take a load off and prepare for hours of relaxation. When it's time to pack up the chair, simply fold it up and slide the chair back into the carry bag. No muss, no fuss.
While this chair is the epitome of a user-friendly design, it is quite simple. The design doesn't include anything fancy like pockets, a headrest, or cupholder, even the “armrests” are simply padded bars. That said, you are so close to the ground that it is easy to rest your beverage, along with your book of choice, directly on the ground beside you for easy access. Overall, it doesn't get much more straightforward than this design. It allows you to kick back in no time at all.
Should You Buy the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile?
If you don't mind being low to the ground and you're after a comfortable, portable, and user-friendly camping chair design, the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile is a great and affordable choice. The unique design keeps your center of gravity very low to the ground, allowing for multiple leg positions for kicking back and relaxing. While the stripped-down design remains simple without many bells and whistles, the high-quality construction will far outlast its modest price tag.
