Our Verdict

For impromptu marshmallows and outdoor dining, the Mesa is a fun, unique solution for enjoying a fire without the prep or hassle of building a full sized wood burning fire. It's more decorative than a true heat source, but we still found ourselves reaching for the Mesa more often than not for quick marshmallow roasting and as a stylish tabletop accessory in the summer.
REASONS TO BUY
Low smoke
Ultra portable
Versatile due to multiple fuel types
REASONS TO AVOID
Can be difficult to light when igniting
Too small for substantial warmth

Our Analysis and Test Results

The Solo Stove Mesa tabletop fire pit steps up the ambiance around the table, offering a unique way to style dinner tables and roast marshmallows.

Heat Output

Maybe unfairly, we had to score the Mesa low for Heat output. Its small form limits the amount of heat it can produce. Another minor drawback of the Mesa is the lack of visible flame. Because of its cylindrical shape and stainless steel construction, you only see a visible flame when the pit is fully stocked with fuel (wood).

While the low heat output is less important for a miniature tabletop pit, it still provides enough heat to warm cold hands and create a bit of warmth around the table on chilly nights.

Smoke management

Utilizing the same “360 airflow” that Solo Stove features in its larger pits, the Mesa is a miniature version of its smokeless design, offering near-identical levels of smoke-free fires. The excellent ventilation system keeps smoke in check, with minimal smoke throughout most of its burn.

Portability

Where the Mesa really shines is in its portability. It weighs just 1.4 lbs and includes a collapsible stand that fits inside the pit when not in use, along with a drawstring carrying case. You can easily set up the Mesa on picnic tables, patios, and anywhere else there's a flat surface for the stand to sit on.

The Mesa takes up less space than a small-sized plate with a diameter of 5.1" and a height of 6.8".

Ease of Cleaning

The Mesa's small size and shape simplify cleaning. Once the pit has cooled off properly, a quick flip upside down and a couple of shakes will dump ash directly out of the pit.

Ease of Assembly

Similar to the rest of the Solo Stove lineup, assembly is as simple as unboxing and placing the Mesa onto its stand. We appreciate the minimal setup time involved with all the Solo Stove products we've tested so far.
