Our Verdict
The Yeti Daytrip 9L is a premium lunchbox-style cooler. Its fancy design is nice to look at and is comfortable to carry. However, it falls short in the most important way - it doesn't keep its contents cool for more than roughly a day. It is more than capable of tackling your lunch to and from work, but its pricetag makes us pause when recommending this as such.

Likes
The Yeti Daytrip is a burly lunchbox. While the collapsible designs have their storage perks, the durability of this one is something we can appreciate. We were happy with the rigid design when we accidentally threw our backpack on top of the cooler in the car. No food was squished, and our fresh sandwich bread was as fluffy as the day we baked it.

The flip-top design makes it easy to load and dig around in - a big bonus when the kids need to grab a snack in the car. Plus, it is quick and easy to clean, and it dries fast; this is partly due to its size. Along the back, it has a sleek pocket that can hold a phone or keys.
The materials feel high quality and we loved the straps. Both the handle and shoulder straps are padded and comfortable to use. Of course, it doesn't get all that heavy given its size (you'll top out at 12 cans), but we still appreciated the premium materials.

Dislikes
Unfortunately, this small cooler isn't all that mighty. It'll only hold food-safe temperatures for a little over a day. If this is your lunchbox, that is more than enough to get you to and from the office breakroom fridge. For anything more, like a camping trip, you'll want something with more insulation.
The zipper was also something we were disappointed in, considering the premium price tag. It isn't watertight and tends to leak. While melting ice and condensation won't soak through the bottom, you'll want to be careful not to knock it over.

Should You Buy the Yeti Daytrip 9L?
We find the price of this small cooler hard to swallow, especially considering how poorly it insulates. You'll be okay using this for quick trips and as a daily lunchbox, but we don't think it's the best choice for longer outings. Keep in mind that it can only hold 12 cans, so if you need something for the family, this will not work.

What Other Soft Coolers Should You Consider?
If you need something that can fit more than 12 cans, the Engel HD30 is a far better choice. It'll hold a whopping 63 cans- yes, 63! Or, you can pack up your whole family's lunch and dinner. It stays food-safe and cold for 3 whole days. It still has a premium price tag, but we think it is far better value. Want to stick with Yeti? The Yeti Hopper Flip 18 is one of our top coolers and does what the Daytrip doesn't. It stays below 40 degrees for about two and a half days and has a watertight zip. It might be a little too big for your daily lunchbox, though.
