Our Verdict

Few sun hats have impressed us more than the Arc'teryx Sinsolo Bucket Hat. It's feathery light, silky soft, and remarkably comfortable, making it the type of hat you can easily forget you're wearing. The thin material keeps things breathable and makes for one of the most travel-friendly hats we've tested. Whether we stuffed it into our pocket for an alpine hike or tossed it into our belt bag for a day of sightseeing, the Sinsolo was ready for any adventure. While it may not be the most protective sun hat out there, it's one you'll actually want to wear. If you can afford the steep buy-in, we think it's well worth the splurge.

The Arc'teryx Sinsolo is one of the lightest hats we've tested.

At just 1.5 ounces, the Arc'teryx felt almost weightless on top of our heads. Combined with its ultra-thin, soft, flexible materials, our testers thought it was one of the most comfortable hats to wear day after day. Ideally, adding vents would improve breathability, but the thin fabric never felt overly stuffy.

It's available in two sizes: S/M and L/XL, and comfortably fits heads of all shapes and sizes. Although there's no toggle to fine-tune the fit, the stretchy, elastic sweatband accommodated all our testers without feeling too loose or overly tight.

This hat also features a soft, elastic chin strap to keep it in place when the wind picks up and a flexible brim to keep it backpacker-friendly. The brim occasionally dipped into our line of sight, but this is common with bucket hats and rarely noticeable. We also like that the brim never flipped up in the wind, so it maintained its coverage even on breezy days.

The Sinsolo's ultralight build also makes it incredibly packable. It crushed down so small that we could easily stuff it into our pockets. And, when it was time to wear it, it popped right back into shape, free of creases or wrinkles. All in all, this hat is an excellent travel companion.

Dislikes

Honestly, there's not much we dislike about this hat, aside from the high price tag. But that's true of most premium products. Rest assured, if you decide to splurge on the Arc'teryx Sinsolo, you'll get a thoughtfully crafted, durable, PFAS-free product backed by the trusted Arc'teryx brand name.

We should also mention that this hat doesn't provide the best all-around sun protection. It's decent, but doesn't quite match the coverage of wide-brimmed competitors.

When the sun was directly overhead, we were impressed with how well the Sinsolo's short, downturned, 2.5-inch brim shielded our noses, cheeks, ears, and scalps. But when the sun dipped low in the morning and afternoon, our faces and necks were left a bit exposed. Still, we'd argue that some coverage from a hat you'll actually wear beats maximum coverage from a bulky wide-brim hat left at home.

Should You Buy the Arc'teryx Sinsolo Bucket Hat?

If you are a gearhead looking for the absolute best comfort and packability, the Arc'teryx Sinsolo Bucket just may be the hat for you. It's featherlight, durable, and stylish, so you can wear it just about anywhere, from backcountry trails to city streets. That said, it's pricey and offers limited sun protection. Still, for users who value premium materials, ultralight comfort, and versatile style, we think it's a worthwhile splurge.

What Other Sun Hats Should You Consider?

If you're into bucket hats, but want something a little more affordable, we also love the Solbari Bondi Bucket. It's a little thicker and less breathable than the Sinsolo, but it's just as cozy and provides slightly better sun protection.
