Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Purist Mover has a unique glass-coated interior that offers some of the cleanest-tasting water of all the bottles that we tested, while still being more durable than a glass bottle. The glass interior prevents any contaminants from forming to the smooth construction while the surgical-grade stainless steel exterior provides durability. We recommend it to those with sensitive and discerning palates who still want a go-everywhere bottle. The Mover is perfect for everything from morning coffee to daily hydration without transferring any lingering flavor from one beverage to the next.
Closure
We tested three different lid styles for the Mover, all of which can be used interchangeably with Purist's other bottle designs, ranging from 10 to 32 ounces. These insulated lids passed our leak tests and they are BPA-free. As a bonus, they are designed with environmentally friendly materials that are 100% recyclable.
The Union lid is Purist's version of a chug cap that opens by pinching the soft stopper to release the leakproof closure before drinking. This lid has an integrated metal handle that makes it easy to transport, and a hollow underside that allows you to sneak a few more ounces into the bottle. The Union quickly became our go-to for hydration throughout the day. The Scope lid doesn't feature a metal handle but has a 360 design that simply twists open and closed to customize your preferred flow rate for drinking or pouring. The Scope was our preferred lid to use for coffee or tea. The Element is a simple twist-off lid with a metal handle that is perfect for keeping hot beverages hot, thanks to the improved insulation attained by the thicker plastic. All of the lids provide excellent function and performance in terms of leakproof designs that prevent inconvenient spills. However, if we had to buy just one, we'd opt for the Union. The narrow opening provides a more convenient way to stay hydrated when we're on the move, which often ends up being most of the day.
Taste
Taste and flavor are really what make the Mover stand apart from the competition. The unique construction includes a glass-coated interior that prevents any flavors from transferring from one drink to the next, better than stainless steel. Purist specifically created technology using silicon dioxide (which is found in materials like sand and quartz and used in glass production) to construct this inner barrier that would successfully resist contaminants, thereby preventing flavor transfer as effectively as a glass cup from home would. Our team appreciated the versatility of this bottle, which we could use for everything from morning coffee to midday electrolytes and evening tea, without noticing lingering hints of the previous beverage.
While the glass interior helps prevent flavor transfer, we did notice some lingering flavors, depending on which lid we used. We love the Scope lid for coffee, which twists open and closed, allowing us to sip our morning brew without the risk of spilling. That said, this lid is also a little trickier to clean and can sometimes retain previous flavors. Ditto on the Union lid with the flip top, which also required us to stay on top of the rinsing and cleaning to prevent flavor transfer. If you are after the purest water flavor, go with the simple, twist-off Element lid which affected the flavor the least of the three. However, the Mover passed all of our taste tests with flying colors, performing on par with the other glass bottles in our review. The fact that it has a more durable metal exterior and instulative properties sets it apart.
Ergonomics
The Mover definitely sets a high standard in terms of overall ergonomics and ease of use. Unlike other bottles with a smooth finish, the slim and sleek Mover design has a matte texture that makes it easier to grip. Two of the three lids also have high-quality metal handles that make this bottle easy to transport. Our lead tester was able to get three fingers underneath with ease. Both the coffee-oriented Scope and the classic Union lids attach to the bottle easily, and the Scope lid uses a smooth twisting mechanism to open the bottle just enough for you to sip your favorite beverage. The Union lid has a pinch top that took a little more finesse to open. We found the best way was to place your thumb and index finger on either side, then pinch the mechanism to open. This is unlike any bottle closure we have used before, but once we got used to it, the motion was easy.
Since the Mover is only 18 ounces, we definitely noticed the difference in the number of times we had to refill throughout the day. Purist offers other bottle sizes, ranging from 10 to 32 ounces, and all lids are interchangeable, allowing you to upgrade to a larger size as needed. Each lid successfully prevents leaks and is easy to twist on and off. The bottle itself fits into every cup holder we could find, making this one of the most ergonomic bottles we've tested to date.
Material Quality
The Mover is hands down one of the most durable and high-quality designs that we've tested. It is made from 316 surgical-grade stainless steel, along with a double-wall vacuum-insulated construction designed to keep your hot drinks hot and your cold drinks cold, without any risk of damage during use. The design is also corrosion-resistant, lead-free, hypoallergenic, and is created with eco-friendly materials to improve sustainability. Each lid has a subtle yet effective plastic gasket on the bottom to ensure a lasting seal, and none of the plastic components showed signs of damage during our testing period.
Because our lead tester lives outside for 7+ months of the year and often commutes on her bike, she managed to scuff up the sides of the exterior as she hit bumps and took sharp turns with the Mover in the bottle cage of the bike frame. That said, it's easy to take better care to avoid these cosmetic scrapes, which aren't limited only to the Mover design (we experienced similar scuffs on the Hydroflask we tested). This bottle is not dishwasher safe, and Purist has fairly specific care instructions for this luxurious design. We recommend taking a look so that you can get the best performance from your investment. Overall, the Mover features one of the highest-quality designs we've tested, thanks to durable, eco-friendly materials that will offer performance for many years to come.
Should You Buy the Purist Mover?
The Purist Mover is our favorite design for sensitive and discerning palates thanks to its unique combination of glass and stainless steel. The resistance to flavor transfer between beverages is one of the best we have experienced, and we like that it can be achieved with more durable construction. Aesthetically, the Mover features one of the most sleek and versatile designs, thanks to three interchangeable and universal lid options that fit on any Purist water bottle size. This high-quality design will last you for many years to come, providing an excellent return on your investment.
What Other Water Bottles Should You Consider?
While our testing team loves the sleek design of the Purist Mover for everything from our morning coffee to daily hydration, it is one of the more expensive bottles that we tested. If you're just after something affordable and simple, the Nalgene Wide-Mouth is our favorite choice for hikers. It is as simple as it gets, offering an excellent volume-to-weight ratio to keep you hydrated on the trails. If you like the glass interior of the Mover, our other glass favorite is the Purifyou Premium. This bottle also prevents flavor transfer, but relies on a silicone sleeve for protection, and is not as hardy as the Mover bottle.
