Our Verdict

The Oiselle Flyout Short Sleeve earns our top pick for warm-weather running award thanks to one simple quality. This shirt refuses to become part of the problem on ultra-steamy outings. While some shirts cling to every inch of sweaty skin the moment temperatures rise, the Flyout maintains a breezy independence. At just 2.72 ounces, it is featherlight without feeling flimsy, offering an airy, relaxed experience that makes summer miles feel a little less daunting. Constructed from a blend of 49% polyester, 49% lyocell, and 2% spandex, the Flyout strikes a rare balance between performance and comfort. The polyester provides durability and moisture management, lyocell contributes softness and a cool-to-the-touch feel, and the touch of spandex adds just enough stretch. The result is a shirt that feels more refined than your average technical tee while remaining thoroughly capable on the run.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Comfort

The Flyout's greatest strength is how little attention it demands. The fabric drapes rather than hugs, creating a fit that skims our body rather than plastering itself to it. While this may not be the most “flattering” fit in terms of what is societally fashionable, the breezier fit is undeniable while in motion. Even when sweat is factored in, the shirt maintains its shape and airflow rather than becoming an unwanted second skin.

The technical nature of this fabric is different from that of many other technical athletic shirts we tested. The Flyout is made of a honeycomb-like weave that naturally allows air to flow through the micro-holes it creates. To prevent this weave from being snaggable, it has a rougher feel than some competitors. While this may initially seem more comfortable, the slight texture helps the shirt ride away from the body, ultimately enhancing comfort.

The relaxed and slightly shortened silhouette won't appeal to everyone. Runners who prefer a streamlined, race-ready fit may find it almost too easygoing. But for those prioritizing comfort, especially during the hottest months of the year, the Flyout delivers in spades.

Breathability

Breathability is where the Flyout truly separates itself from the pack. Few shirts we tested handled hot weather as gracefully as the Flyout.

The lightweight construction of this running top encourages constant airflow, while the looser fit allows heat to escape rather than trapping it against the body. The shirt almost seems to create its own microclimate, floating just enough away from our skin to prevent that suffocating feeling that can develop late in a summer run. The Flyout's nonclingy nature cannot be overstated. Even as temperatures climb and humidity sets in, the fabric resists collapsing onto the body. If you've ever spent the final miles of a run peeling a sweat-soaked shirt off your torso every few strides, you'll understand exactly why this shirt earned our warm-weather honors.

Moisture Control

The Flyout approaches moisture management a bit differently than some highly technical race tops, working in tandem with its airy breathability. Rather than aggressively wicking sweat and immediately feeling dry to the touch, it prioritizes maintaining comfort while moisture moves through the fabric.

The polyester component handles the heavy lifting in terms of performance, while lyocell helps regulate temperature and keeps the shirt cool even when damp. Sweat disperses efficiently rather than pooling, and the fabric avoids feeling heavy or swampy during longer efforts. It may not dry as quickly as the most stripped-down race-day shirts, but it excels where it matters most - when maintaining comfort in hot, humid, less-than-ideal conditions. In our line-dry test, this running shirt took 21 minutes to dry in the sun, which is less time than many of our other running shirts.

Versatility

The Flyout is an exceptional running shirt, hands down. The moisture control and breathability it offers make it an ideal pick for steamy fitness experiences.

The Flyout is a certain kind of shirt. It is an activity shirt. While it doesn't look bad in the world outside of fitness, this is a shirt designed to get sweaty in. It looks right at home on hikes, backpacking trips, runs, spin classes, and even hot yoga, but despite its cute colors, it is a piece of gear through and through. When it comes to activities, the Flyout is ultra-versatile. When it comes to life beyond fitness goals, it is not the best crossover option.

Should You Buy the Oiselle Flyout?

The Oiselle Flyout Short Sleeve isn't trying to be the sleekest or most aggressively technical shirt on the market. Instead, it excels at making hot-weather running feel more manageable. It's soft without sacrificing performance, breathable without feeling fragile, and relaxed without looking sloppy. Most importantly, it understands that when the weather turns oppressive, comfort becomes performance. If your summer runs often involve negotiating with the sun and wondering how many miles remain until shade appears, the Flyout may be the shirt that keeps you moving forward without ever clinging to your every move.

What Other Running Shirts Should You Consider?

If a breezy, cool-feeling running shirt is what you're after, we recommend one that doesn't cling too closely to your skin. We quite enjoyed running in the Salomon ShakeOut Core T-shirt because of its athletic yet loose fit. The Brooks Dash T-shirt consistently feels cool beneath your fingertips and is on the more affordable side. The REI Swiftland T-shirt is another option that feels lightweight, cool, and technical while on the move.
