Our Verdict
The REI Co-op Active Pursuits Tee is proof that not every good running shirt needs to cost as much as a race entry fee. At first glance, it doesn't necessarily look like a technical top at all, and that's part of its charm. With a smooth hand feel, flattering slightly slimmer cut, and enough length to stay put beneath a backpack or hydration vest, it transitions seamlessly between workouts and everyday life. At 3.88 ounces for a women's size small, it's a touch heavier than some of the featherweight specialists we tested, but it still dried in a respectable 25 minutes on the line. Add in a UPF 50 rating and an approachable price point, and the Active Pursuits emerges as one of the strongest values in the lineup. It may not have the advanced features or cutting-edge construction of more premium options, but when it comes to showing up, getting the job done, and looking good while doing it, this shirt earns its keep.

The Active Pursuits performs well above its price point. While it lacks some of the bells and whistles found in premium running shirts, it absolutely delivers in terms of comfort, functionality, and reliability. For runners who don't want to spend a small fortune outfitting their wardrobe, this shirt proves that “budget-friendly” doesn't have to mean “settling.”
One of the biggest compliments we can give this shirt is that it doesn't necessarily look like a running shirt. The smooth fabric and slightly slimmer silhouette make it easy to transition from a morning walk or gym session straight into errands without feeling like you're dressed for race day. If you're someone who likes gear that earns its closet space beyond workouts, the Active Pursuits has broad appeal.

The fabric feels noticeably comfortable against the skin, with a smooth finish that avoids the scratchiness some budget performance tops can have. The cut also provides generous length, helping the hem stay put beneath a hydration vest or backpack hip belt rather than creeping upward throughout the day. Whether you're hiking, traveling, or logging easy miles, it's simply pleasant to wear.
The inclusion of a UPF 50 rating is a particularly welcome surprise at this price point. It adds another layer of practicality for runners, hikers, and anyone spending long hours outside, making the shirt feel more thoughtfully equipped than its modest price tag might suggest.

Dislikes
The Active Pursuits shows up ready to work, but it isn't trying to compete with highly specialized running tops from brands that load their products with technical features. You won't find targeted seam engineering, ultralight fabrics, anti-odor treatments, or innovative knit structures. It covers the basics exceptionally well, but serious gear enthusiasts may find themselves wanting more.
At nearly four ounces, the shirt carries a bit more substance than some of the thinner options we tested. The difference isn't dramatic, but runners accustomed to barely-there race tops may notice the extra heft, particularly during hard efforts in extreme heat.
Unlike several of its more premium competitors, the Active Pursuits doesn't include an anti-odor treatment, and, over time, it shows. After repeated sweaty sessions, the shirt tends to retain odors more readily than tops designed to stay fresher between washes. It's hardly a dealbreaker, but if you're the type to wear a shirt for multiple workouts or pack light while traveling, you'll likely notice the difference.

Could you spend more? Absolutely. Would you get more advanced features? Of course. But for runners who value practicality, versatility, and a price tag that leaves room in the budget for race registrations and post-run coffee, the Active Pursuits more than earns its place in the lineup.

The Swiftland doesn't offer any added features, but it is a solid running shirt to consider nonetheless.
