Our Verdict

The UA Tech V-Neck tee is one of the most basic running shirts around. The styling is fairly basic and doesn't include reflective details, strategic venting, or performance-focused features found in dedicated running tops. Runners seeking top-tier performance may find it a bit generic. It offers a soft, relaxed fit with a subtle V-neck that some runners may find flattering. This shirt does not score well in terms of technical performance, but it can be worn for activities outside running thanks to its more understated style. With built-in odor-blocking technology, this is a budget-friendly buy for runners who simply need something to get the job done.

The fabric of the Under Armour Tech V-Neck is thin and airy, making it comfortable for many types of runs. It allows heat to escape well and doesn't feel heavy even when you're moving for extended periods. This shirt is made with more fabric than some of the higher scorers, which can make the fit feel a bit tent-like.

Unlike many technical running shirts that feel slick or plasticky, the UA Tech V-Neck has a softer texture that feels comfortable against the skin. Many runners enjoy it for casual wear as much as for workouts. The polyester fabric helps prevent the shirt from staying damp for long after your workout ends.

The Tech V-Neck is often significantly less expensive than premium running shirts from brands that incorporate more technical performance wear. The Tech features flatlock and overlock seams that offer comfort and breathability without overcomplicating things. This shirt delivers solid performance without requiring a large investment.

Dislikes

The UA Tech dries fairly quickly, but it doesn't move sweat away from the body as efficiently as higher-end performance fabrics. On long or intense runs, you may notice it feeling wetter than more technical shirts.

Although some versions include anti-odor technology, the fabric of this shirt can eventually develop a lingering sweat smell after repeated use and washing. This is a common issue with many polyester-based shirts. Moreover, while it's reasonably ventilated and light, the lack of technical prowess in this running top doesn't quite match the airflow and wicking of more premium shirts.

This running shirt is not officially marketed with a certified UPF rating. It provides some natural UV protection because it's polyester, but it isn't designed for prolonged sun exposure, which may sway runners who want extra protection during summer excursions. The front and rear logos are not designed to be reflective either, which is important to note if you do a lot of your running in low-light environments, where being seen means safety.

Should You Buy the UA Tech V-Neck?

If you are looking for a true bang for your buck, we recommend the UA Tech V-Neck running shirt. While it isn't the highest-scoring technical tee we've tested, it is available at a much lower price, which adds to its sweetness. Its soft comfort and versatility make it worth considering if you are seeking a budget buy to outfit your runs.

What Other Running Shirts Should You Consider?

The REI Active Pursuits is the real deal when it comes to a strong performance-to-price ratio. While the Active Pursuits top costs a bit more than the UA Tech, it outperforms it in nearly every category. This REI offering offers superior moisture-wicking and odor protection with a confirmed 50+ UPF rating. If you are willing to shell out a bit more cash, the Rabbit EZ Tee is a super soft, high-performing running top that rides like the bougie older sister of the UA Tech. Finally, the Nike Tempo SS Running Top is a similarly smoothly textured running top that offers a touch of style and a tapered fit to suit your running needs.
