Our Analysis and Test Results
The Beyond Yoga Practice Pants are made with an ultra-soft 87% polyester and 13% Lycra spandex blend. The four-way stretch material is UPF 20 and helps protect the skin from UV rays. This yoga flare comes in a bootcut style with a high waistband, and it is available in seasonal colors sizes XS to XL.
Performance Comparison
Comfort and Fit
The first thing we noticed about the Practice Pants was that they might be the softest clothing in our closet. The “Spacedye” material feels amazing next to the skin when in motion. We are always grateful to find incredibly comfortable and stylish pants that can move with us throughout the day.
The softness of the Practice Pants nurtured our yin side, and we often chose them to relax in long-held yin poses before bed or find stillness in yoga nidra (non-sleep deep rest). The waistband gives the right amount of compression, so we felt free to breathe deep into the low belly during restorative yoga.
The design hugs the hips in the right places, and the bootcut flare looks chic and slim when hitting the cafe for brunch. These pants are comfortable in any yoga practice, restorative or active. The pant leg fit is more of a bootcut, and this design allows it to hug the leg the perfect amount to be functional in challenging yoga poses. The wide waistband stays in place on the mat and doesn't roll. However, our research found that many reviewers found these pants run small and short, so consider ordering a size up.
Ease of Movement
The Practice Pants were the most versatile fit of the flares we tested for all types of yoga. Flares can be a stylish addition to wear on the mat, but too much flare can get in the way during dynamic movements or tight binds.
The trendy bootcut of the Practice Pant is still an excellent fit for the demands of challenging poses. Flares with more fabric can slide down the legs in arm balances like handstands, and excess material can also make some poses like binds harder to get into. While the Practice Pants are more challenging to move into binds than body-contouring leggings, they are still a solid choice for challenging flows.
We appreciate that the wide waistband on the Practice Pant perfectly balances support and flexibility, always staying put during each move. The four-way stretch material molded and moved with our hips into any pose. We always felt unrestricted in our full range of motion. These pants also transitioned well into other activities, and we had fun stretching in them on the climbing wall.
Breathability
The Practice Pant fabric breathed incredibly well, so it took longer for us to break a sweat, and they continued to vent well even when we were in the middle of a sweaty, heated flow.
We dressed these pants up for walks through town in a tropical environment and even to the beach, and we always felt our legs could breathe. With a material that protects your skin with UV protection, these are an excellent option for hiking or yoga outside. However, since the fabric is midweight, they can also keep you warmer than some of the lightest models we tested.
We tested this model in a dark berry color and noticed that sweat stains were less visible than in other models tested in reds and purples. The fabric is mottled and blended so that sweat stains are not an issue with these pants. However, a general rule of thumb is, when in doubt, order a darker color if you don't care for sweat lines.
Construction Quality
After multiple wash cycles, we noticed these pants were a bit less durable than other award winners. We observed a few loose threads on the seams, and over months of use, minor pilling began to appear on the seam lines of the pants.
The Practice Pant is opaque in a squat, and its midweight fabric hardly shows underwear lines. We tested the pants on a home climbing gym and noticed no snags from the climbing holds. We observed that the material seams sturdy, and most of the pilling occurred around the seams. Prevent excessive wear by air drying these pants. An inexpensive pill shaver could keep them looking fresh longer.
Should You Buy the Beyond Yoga Spacedye Practice Pants?
The stylish Practice Pants are comfortable and easy to move in for all styles of yoga. We trust the wide waistband to hold us gently in and allow us the freedom to expand on the mat or climbing wall. The bootcut fit of these pants makes them highly versatile for dynamic and restorative practices, but also one of the best yoga pants to wear the rest of the day. They would be trendy for running errands or travel and have added UV protection to protect you from the sun. We wore them comfortably, from sunrise sun salutations to bedtime routines. Despite the minor pilling on the seams, the high comfort and ease of movement are above average. Plus, this is one of the more sustainable yoga pants we tested, as the “Spacedye” fabric is manufactured in companies with minimal water and waste production. We did not want to take these pants off and kept reaching for them for our favorite activities.
What Other Yoga Pants Should You Consider?
While the Practice Pant is incredibly soft, if you want a more durable option that sets the bar for ease of movement, the Lululemon Align High Rise or Patagonia Maipo 7/8 Tights will move with you into any pose. If you want something that can move with you off the mat into outdoor adventures, then the Prana Becksa 7/8 is a versatile pant excellent for hitting the trail or local crag. If you go for more sweaty practices, the Crz Yoga NakedFeel Leggings Double Waist Seam is your best option for keeping cool and wicking sweat.
