Our Verdict

For the most casual slipper, look into scuffs – the Ugg Scuff to be precise. With an open heel and an enclosed toe, these are one of the easiest pairs of slippers to get in and out of, perfect for when you need to slip those toes into something warm as soon as you get up from bed.
REASONS TO BUY
Fun and playful design
Easy to get in and out of
Unique embossed suede outsole
REASONS TO AVOID
Liner isn't 100% wool
Sole is not well-padded
Narrower than other slippers

Quality of both the materials and craftsmanship are on display here. The suede upper and outsole hug a wool liner and sheepskin insole, which look perfectly stitched together.

The UGG Scuff is a well-constructed slipper made from durable materials that is likely to last much longer than your run-of-the-mill cheap scuff.   Credit: Justin Simoni

The Scuff's open heel design means these slippers are impressively lightweight, and the overflowing cloud-like wool-blend lining drives home this point.

If you don't like being bogged down by slippers that feel more like bricks on your feet, these scuffs could be the pair you've been looking for.

And being open-heeled, these slippers are super breathable and easy to slip on/off to modulate heat. Often we'll just use them to rest our toes on while sitting around, only to slip our feet in when we feel a chill.

Dislikes

Being open-heeled does come with some disadvantages. When wearing, your toes can be super toasty, while your heels are left out in the cold to fend for themselves. We couldn't rate them super high in warmth for this reason.

Traction isn't the best either. If you live a life of constantly walking up and down the stairs, these may just slip around too much. We don't recommend them for outdoor use, unless you're committed to the “just got up from bed” look, replete with matching jammies and a shock of hair. The suede outsole also won't have the durability of a rubber one.

Although these do look heavenly, they weren't always the most comfortable to wear, as the open heel meant that our heel was free to wander where it would like, and made it easy to fall off, if we rested our feet up on the ottoman.

The outsole is also made out of a suede, rather than rubber, which will wear down faster outside.

Do note that there are several variations of the Scuff, and many may not be made of bona fide shearling, but a recycled wool or plant-based Lyocell instead.

Should you Buy the Ugg Scuff?

The Ugg Scuff are some of the most handsome scuff-style slippers you can find. For strictly indoor use, they're a super fun pair whose wool liner feels fantastic wrapped around your toes. However, this style of slipper won't work for everybody given the open-heeled design, but the suede upper style is timeless. They're definitely not cheap, and at this price, there are other slippers we recommend over these.

What Other Men's Slippers Should You Consider?

If you love the idea of a leather and shearling slipper, we recommend the similarly-priced, yet more comfortable, warm, and secure L.L. Bean Wicked Good Moccasins. For a completely different take on a pair of slippers that are easy to slip on and off, consider the Glerups Slip-On with Natural Rubber Sole, which feature a seemingly seamless wool felt upper and an extremely sticky outsole.
