Our Verdict

The Zigzagger Moccasin are a handsome pair of slippers that closely mimic the look of much more expensive options on the market. The secret to their low price is that they opt to use cheaper synthetic lookalikes over expensive natural materials. We can't say performance or comfort is quite as good as the real thing, but it may work well enough for taking it easy at home and for popping outside to get the mail or take out the trash. And their faux wool and microfiber materials also enable you to throw these in the washing machine when they need to get cleaned, a trick that almost no real leather or suede slipper can pull off.
REASONS TO BUY

Our Analysis and Test Results

With comfort that competes with much more expensive slippers of similar design, the more affordable Zigzagger Moccasin makes a strong case for itself. Its faux wool-lined upper is soft and honestly pretty toasty. The rubber outsole gives just enough traction and confidence for quick trips outside without having to switch footwear, but not so much rubber to make the slipper overly rigid and uncomfortable when you're relaxing on the couch. It's machine-washable too, which is something a suede or leather slipper can rarely pull off. The downside of the Zigzagger is overall lifespan: these slippers just aren't built with materials that are going to last for the long run, nor were they put together particularly carefully. But if you're just looking for a cozy pair of indoor shoes to relax in after hours, these are a worthy buy.

Comfort

The Zigzagger Moccasin slippers are suppler than they look, with a soft and spongy upper and a faux wool interior liner. This liner even extends to the footbed to completely surround your feet. The liner isn't as soft or springy as real shearling, but it's surprisingly close. There is also a slight back heel to keep your foot in place, but it's lowered to make slipping in and out pretty easy.

The memory foam midsole makes each step feel easy, and although the outsole is made of rubber, it's not as built up as they seem at first blush. These slippers may look like they're ready for a day of errands capped off by a working session at the local café, but they're more optimized to stay at home, close to your bedside.

Insulation

Most of the insulation of the Zigzagger is owed to the somewhat lofty faux wool on the interior. The memory foam midsole also helps insulate the foot from the bottom. With a short heel, the entire foot is more or less covered by the slipper except your upper Achilles.

But how does this perform? Surprisingly okay. The faux wool of the Zigzagger does a good job in capturing heat from our feet, keeping us feeling mighty cozy. We can't say that the Zigzagger matches punch for punch some of the higher-end, bona fide shearling-lined slippers we've tested.

With the flat rubber sole, these slippers make a good indoor shoe, especially if you have particularly cold floors like hardwood, stone, or concrete.

Breathability and Moisture Management

Although the upper may look like it's made out of a natural suede of some sort, in reality it's just polyester. This microsuede makes for a far more breathable material, perhaps bettering the breathability of some suede or leather slippers. Ultimately, this works against the slipper for absolute warmth, but we think this is a nice compromise in all but the coldest of climates.

On the flipside, getting the Zigzagger Moccasin wet after getting stuck in a rain or snow storm isn't the end of the world, as the materials this slipper are made with aren't in peril if they get drenched. In fact, these slippers are washing machine-compatible, which is nice to remember once you've worn these without socks for a little while.

Traction

With a thin rubber heel, traction is pretty good for indoor tasks and brief outdoor sojourns to the mailbox or to take out the trash.

A slight tread pattern on the bottom helps matters, but obviously these aren't trying to be a replacement for your favorite trail runners.

You won't find much in the way of arch support in the Zigzagger Moccasin, nor a cupped heel. But just the presence of a lip at the heel helps with stability when walking, something we missed on the scuff style slippers we tested.

Construction Quality

Unfortunately, this is a metric where the Zigzagger Moccasin starts to flounder. The pair that we've been using off and on for a few years is really starting to show signs of wear, with obvious runs developing at the seams, the start of holes in the upper, and the inner lining looking a bit ratty.

There were indications that durability in the long run wasn't going to match much more expensive slippers, like when we noticed seams that weren't lined up well when manufactured. We usually raise an eyebrow when we hear that a midsole has memory foam, as this material usually starts off as extremely comfortable, but can crush out and lose its comfy performance.

The Zigzagger Moccasin certainly takes on the look of other more pricey pairs of slippers out there, but don't be tricked about what you're getting for the price. One benefit of a less expensive pair of slippers is not investing in something that you may not use all that often. Or, maybe you just live in a household where nice things within the reach of a toddler or a puppy are just inviting destruction. This is a niche excellently filled in by the Zigzagger

Should You Buy the Zigzagger Moccasin?

As a budget buy, we can give our stamp of approval, provided you're okay with knowing the Zigzagger Moccasin is a step down in overall quality (and certainly durability) compared to more expensive options. For a casual, budget pair of slippers, they'll keep your feet feeling toasty warm, while keeping you from slipping on the newly mopped dining room floor.

What Other Men's Slippers Should You Consider?

The Sorel Falcon Ridge III are cheekily what these slippers are taking inspiration from, but you'll pay a whole lot more for them, and the lining is still a faux wool shearling. Still, the Sorel slippers are sure to last much longer. The HomeTop Knit Moccasin is another value buy that we endorse. They don't wear as warm as the Zigzagger, but for those who already run hot, that might be a welcome attribute.
