Our Verdict

The Hoka Bondi SR boasts all-day support and comfort, while offering slip-resistance on wet tile or concrete. The shoe begins stiff out of the box but wears in with time. We loved the durable upper, which barely showed any signs of use after miles of walking. Plus, the leather easily wipes clean. We have some hesitancy around unsteady paths due to the width and rigidity of the shoe, but for those looking to walk indoors or on paved surfaces, these are a worthy contender.
REASONS TO BUY

REASONS TO AVOID

Our Analysis and Test Results

After extensively testing these shoes, we think they will make a great addition to any indoor shift worker's closet or anyone who needs slip-resistant security. They have plenty of stability and support for long days.

Comfort

The Bondi SR offers a cushioned base for extended standing and walking. They aren't the most athletic or light, meaning they aren't great for faster-paced fitness walking. However, they are a great choice for those who spend lots of time upright. Out of the box, they are on the stiffer side, rather than having the classic Hoka-like plush cushioning. However, the thick base breaks in for a very supportive ride.

Support

Once broken in, the shoes fit like a glove. The leather upper, in a way, molds to your foot shape, while the midsole becomes softer. The result is a shoe that offers plenty of support underfoot and through the upper.

The shoes fit standard in terms of width and length. Our toes weren't squished in the regular width. However, if you find yourself needing extra wiggle room, they are available in a “wide” version as well.

Traction

The SR in the name stands for Slip Resistant, which we found to be accurate indoors on slick floors. The outsole is made from rubber with a flat tread. This did great indoors on tile and outdoors on concrete. However, the combination of the less flexible wide base and tread pattern made it difficult to maintain stability on gravel. That said, this isn't where these shoes shine. They are best suited for indoor use where slipping is a potential concern.

Weight

At 14.52 ounces per shoe (US 6.5), these are on the heavier side. Much of the weight can be attributed to the leather upper and thick sole. The shoes felt bulky upon our initial walks, but as the materials broke in, it was less noticeable.

Durability

The uppers are built to last with reinforced eyelets and durable leather paneling. During our testing, we had no trouble with the shoes breaking down. We love how easy they are to wipe clean as well. This is another big perk for anyone working where spills can happen. Our lead tester worked in healthcare for many years and specifically noted how these shoes will keep your feet protected.

A quick wipe will clean the shoes and get them looking gresh again. Here we walked through some mud and easily got them freshened up.

Should You Buy the Hoka Bondi SR?

The Hoka Bondi SR is a great choice for healthcare workers, restaurant staff, and other industries where you spend a lot of time on your feet. They are slip-resistant, and the upper is resistant to fluids, again making these an excellent choice for these industries. Otherwise, they are a good choice for a walker who specifically wants the slip-resistant outsole. However, walkers who frequent gravel paths should look elsewhere.

What Other Walking Shoes Should You Consider?

The Bondi SR is exceptionally stable on concrete and tile. However, if you venture off the beaten path, the Hoka Transport might be a better option for you. These have a Vibram outsole with lugs that resemble a hiking shoe. Or, if you want a truly plush experience from Hoka, the Hoka Clifton 10 is the most cloud-like shoe we have tested.
