Our Analysis and Test Results

The Jones Womens Howler was a top performer in all testing categories and is rated as one of our favorite all-mountain freestyle boards. It stayed afloat in deep powder, laid down a mean carve, and ensured stability at high speeds. This board is no joke, and it's clear that Jones took things seriously when creating this freestyle Swiss army knife.

Edging

The Jones Womens Howler was built to carve. Offering seamless transitions from toeside to heelside, this board's happy place is being on edge. The tapered, directional shape allows for deep carves without getting caught up on your contact points. Additionally, this board has medium traction tech, providing simple edging without the convoluted edge system some companies in the industry run on their shapes.

The Howler was our top-scoring board in the edging category, so you could imagine this thing rips a turn. Once engaged, the edge of this board locks into turns and feels secure from start to finish, leaving behind clean lines. Carving becomes second nature when on the Howler, and it provides a killer ride experience through groomers, tight trees, and variable terrain across the whole mountain.

Float in Powder

Deep days are a dream when you're strapped into the Jones Womens Howler. A minimally tapered directional shape, high camber profile, and stiff flex are the ultimate trio that makes this board a powder master. The tapered directional shape creates a smaller tail and a bigger nose, so you can save yourself the burning calves and simply press into the tail, letting the larger nose intuitively glide above the snow surface.

The Howler would be one of our first picks out the door if we woke up to some freshies on the slope. This board is a blast to rip in pow, and there's no fear of sinking beneath the surface with this freestyle all-mountain board. Whether you're missioning to the untouched deeps of the side country or taking some pow rippers down the first chair at your local resort, the Jones Women's Howler is a no-brainer option to have guaranteed face shots, no tomahawk necessary.

Stability at Speed

Pointing it from top to bottom of a run is a blast on the Jones Womens Howler. This board wants to go fast, and its Medium 3D Contour Base construction gives it the powerful build to do so without fear of getting an edge caught. This technology essentially lifts the edges of the nose into a contour, allowing for lift where needed and contact in the sweet spots.

Jones built this board with aerospace Koroyd synthetic core material, which they claim is the lightest core material in their lineup, and it absorbs vibration like a champ. This stuff is used in outer space, so it's guaranteed to be light and reliable. Our testers can confirm that this board gave off minimal chatter when cruising at top speeds over crud, slush, packed groomers, you name it.

Playfulness

All work and no play makes snowboarding dull; that's why we love the Howler - it's fun as heck. Although this board isn't our go-to choice for park riding, it has a whole lot of play when it comes to carving, ripping at top speeds, and exploring the many facets of the mountain.

When carving a snowboard feels like a dance, you know you're going to have a good day on the hill. The Howler allows you to rip all across the mountain with style and ease, making it a top choice for a guaranteed good day.

Pop and Jumping

For being an aggressive all-mountain snowboard, the Howler still offered a decent amount of pop and jump. The Howler is part of pro freestyle snowboarder Elena Hight's signature series, so you know this board sets a high standard for being able to send it off cliff drops and boost out of half pipe walls. That it does. As far as the board's construction goes, it features a Jones' Power Core, consisting of bamboo, paulownia, and poplar. The paulownia and poplar bend keep the core light and damp, while centered bamboo stringers provide torsional stiffness and pop.

Jones integrated BComp Carbon / Flax stringers in this board, utilizing the carbon for pop and the flax to suck up chatter. Not to mention it's a sustainable alternative, as the flax stringers reduce CO₂ emissions compared to a full carbon stringer. Take offs and landings felt secure on the Howler, as its 4 out of 5 stiffness rating and advanced construction felt stable underfoot for all your trick stomping needs. The high full-power camber profile provides grip and power for boosting and stomping tricks like it's your full-time job.

Should You Buy the Jones Womens Howler?

The Jones Womens Howler is a great option for someone looking to level up their free ride skills and have a quiver killer that can perform well in any and all conditions. This board adapted to any terrain it was ridden in and provided an enjoyable ride. We wouldn't recommend the Howler to a beginner or park-minded rider, as it feels a little stiff for rails or for a newer boarder to get a feel for out of the box.

What Other Snowboard Should You Consider?

If you're looking for less of an aggressive board that you can progress your skills on, we recommend the Yes Airmaster 3D, which offers a more forgiving and playful riding experience. If you want a board that's equally as playful but perhaps a little more aggressive in comparison to the Yes model, check out the Rome Ravine Pro. Finally, if the Howler is right up your alley and you'd like to add a comparable model to your quiver, we can't recommend the Cardiff Lynx enough.
