Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Yes Airmaster 3D is the most playful freestyle-oriented board we tested, earning it a Top Pick award. The Airmaster effortlessly cruised through the varied terrain and conditions we tested it on, managing to stay afloat on deep powder days, hold its edge while carving on groomers, and maintain stability when straight lining runs at high speeds. Heck, this board even threw down in the park.
Edging
The Yes Airmaster 3D held its edge through every turn we took it through. Featuring Yes's Y3D board shape technology, the base has a rounded shape on the tips' contact points, similar to a spoon. The idea behind this design is to optimize freestyle needs with smoother transitions, enhanced control, reduced edge catches, and stable landings in various snow conditions. The advantage of this triple contact base design allows riders to engage with a turn from a flat base or up on edge, making it versatile and diverse.
Although it wasn't a top scorer in the edging category, the Airmaster was still able to transition from one edge to another with minimal effort and ease and locked into a turn without worry. Born with freestyle riding in mind, the Airmaster makes carving a breeze, from the park to the powder.
Float in Powder
The Yes Airmaster 3D stayed afloat through deep snow and provided our tester with an enjoyable powder experience. Designed with rocker at the tip and tail, this board floats above the snow with close to zero effort. Paired with a stiffness rating of 7/10, this Yes model felt reliable on lines through deep pockets of snow without worrying about sinking below the surface.
The Yes is constructed with three types of wood, including a blend of poplar, paulownia, and bamboo core. The combo of these three materials, known as Yes's Torrent Core, makes the overall build lighter and more responsive. Meanwhile, carbon stringers from the inserts to the nose provide that extra pop and snap to make powder riding easy and fun.
Stability at Speed
Our tester felt confident ripping the Yes Airmaster 3D at top speeds. With the perk of a sintered base, it rips out of the box and provides easy wax absorption, giving you that extra speed layer when you're really trying to crank up the MPH.
The Airmaster has a triax fiber construction, offering a noticeable balance of torsional stiffness and enhancing hold and stability at speed. It also manages to maintain a quick responsiveness and lively feel underfoot. The high camber profile of this board provides high-speed control, as the shape presses firmly against the snowpack, allowing riders to focus on straightlining down the hill with control and style.
Playfulness
The Yes Airmaster 3D was one of our top-rated boards in our playfulness category. We felt like the whole mountain was our playground when riding this board; it gave us the freedom to ride with a creative, playful lens. Additionally, of all the boards we tested, the Yes rates itself as the most beginner/intermediate-minded board, allowing for tons of play and progression for beginners and pros alike.
The directional twin shape of this board allows you to come in hot to features and provides confidence riding out of your tricks switch, opening up the door to endless possibilities for play. The Airmaster features Yes' High Camber snowboard, which offers riders a precise and powerful response to their movements, allowing you to pop off side hits, slash a quarterpipe, and air off a jump, knowing your board is going to come right along with you.
Pop and Jumping
The Yes Airmaster 3D was a big yes for us in the popping and jumping category, receiving some of our highest regards and earning the top score in this department. Though the flex is rated rather stiff with a 7/10, the poplar and paulownia core construction of this board made for a light and easily poppable deck.
The directional twin shape of the Airmaster is a multifaceted machine when performing tricks. It was easy to butter off the nose, pop an ollie, and catch air off side hits and jumps. The twin aspect of this board allowed for switch riding when we felt called to it, yet the directional feel made popping off jumps and even sliding down rails a walk in the park.
