Our Verdict

The Hoka Arahi 8 is a serious contender if you want a light, comfortable shoe that works for walking, standing, and running. It has a new H-shaped support frame that helps keep your foot steady without feeling stiff or heavy. If you're a newer runner looking for something that feels smooth and simple to wear, the Arahi is a solid, budget-friendly pick that offers the support and stability you need to achieve running goals. It isn't the flashiest shoe out there, but it delivers reliable comfort, a balanced feel under the heel, and just enough stability for people who want a little extra support without going overboard.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Offering a clean, smooth ride, the Arahi 8 makes movement seem effortless and enjoyable.   Credit: Ally Arcuri

Comfort and Fit

The Arahi 8 delivers a straightforward, reliable kind of comfort that works well for everyday running and walking. It isn't the softest or most cushioned shoe on the market, but it offers just the right amount of padding to stay comfortable during longer efforts.

The heel collar feels plush and secure, and the well-padded tongue helps protect the top of your foot from lace pressure, resulting in a snug and comfortable fit. The shoe runs true to size, making it an easy pick for people who already feel at home in Hoka's overall fit. Hoka also offers wide and extra-wide versions of the Arahi, enabling even more runners to find comfort in the shoe's design. If you enjoy Hoka's signature style but want something a little lighter and more refreshing underfoot, the Arahi 8 delivers a refreshing and dependable ride.

Cushioning

The Hoka Arahi 8 feels soft and supportive underfoot, featuring a cushioned heel and a gentle, natural slope from heel to toe. It features a 34 mm heel stack and a 7 mm heel-to-toe drop, which may be more suitable for beginners than steeper drops.

The foam throughout the shoe is light and slightly firm, providing a smooth and steady ride that remains comfortable during long walks and everyday movement. It's a great choice if you're looking for a stable shoe that doesn't feel heavy or bulky. While the lighter materials may wear down slightly faster with high mileage, the Arahi 8 still performs wonderfully as a reliable everyday trainer for easy runs, shorter workouts, and all-day comfort.

Breathability

The breathability of the updated Arahi is average and rather unremarkable. In keeping with its theme of simplicity, the upper double jacquard mesh of this shoe is as basic-feeling as it comes. But basics are classic for a reason. There isn't anything inherently wrong with the upper of the Arahi; it simply does not offer the exceptional airflow of some breezier road running shoes on the market. If everything else about the Arahi aligns with your needs and budget, the modest breathability isn't a reason to shun this shoe. Alternatively, if you prefer running in warm environments and know you're prone to overheating feet, a more breathable running shoe might better suit your needs.

Traction

The Arahi 8 offers solid traction in dry conditions, making it a dependable choice for everyday runs on clear roads and paths.

It handles loose gravel and light debris with confidence, giving you a steady feel around corners. On damp or slick surfaces, the grip isn't quite as impressive, but it still holds up well enough for most casual runs.

Should You Buy the Hoka Arahi 8?

Simple and dependable, the Hoka Arahi 8 is a great option for runners seeking a consistent, reliable, and budget-friendly daily trainer. It may not lead the pack in flashy features or performance metrics, but it excels where it matters most: delivering steady support and long-lasting comfort. The lightweight design and smooth underfoot feel make it easy to wear for walking, standing, or running, while the H-shaped support frame keeps the foot secure without feeling stiff. Over time, it has proven itself as a durable companion for everyday cardio, making each run feel effortless and stable. For anyone who values comfort, reliability, and ease of use over bells and whistles, this shoe hits the mark.

What Other Road Running Shoes Should You Consider?

The Hoka Mach 7 embodies all of the lovable elements of the Arahi 8 but bundles them into a lighter, more versatile package. As our Best Buy award winner this season, the Mach 7 offers the levity many runners seek for a price that won't break the bank. Runners who want a well-cushioned option but are intrigued by the stability frame in the Arahi might like the sturdy, well-padded New Balance 1080v15.
